Unisa’s centralised toll-free number, 0800 00 1870, reaches the Student Communication Centre, open Monday to Friday 08:00 to 19:00 and Saturday 08:00 to 14:00 (SAST). For email, pick the mailbox that matches your qualification level:

Unisa asks you to put your student number in the email subject line and to email one address only, otherwise your query may be delayed.

What you need before contacting Unisa

Applications for 2027 are open on these dates:

  • Undergraduate qualifications, honours degrees and postgraduate diplomas: 17 August to 9 October 2026
  • Master’s and doctoral qualifications: 1 September to 20 November 2026
  • Short Learning Programmes: open 2 November 2026

Before you apply, check that you meet the statutory and college admission requirements and the minimum APS, and make sure you have one email address and one cellphone number. Scan your school qualification, your official tertiary record (if you have one), your ID or passport, a marriage or divorce certificate if applicable, and any sworn translations required. Upload each document as a separate black-and-white file of no more than 2MB, in PDF, DOC or TIF format.

The online application fee is R160.00 and is non-refundable. Pay it only after Unisa issues you a student number, and use your student number, a space, then 5370810030 as the payment reference.

Step-by-step application process

  1. Check that you meet the admission requirements and minimum APS for your qualification.
  2. Scan the required documents.
  3. Apply on Unisa’s online application tool during the application window.
  4. Upload your supporting documents by the closing date.
  5. Once you have a student number, pay the R160 application fee and email the proof of payment to susdepid@unisa.ac.za.
  6. Wait for the outcome. If you are offered a place and are a first-time student, complete the free First-Year Experience MOOC (UOL-009: FYE101_2027) first, then accept at www.unisa.ac.za/acceptoffer within 10 working days, and register.

Escalation route

Unisa does not publish a separate escalation line for applications. If an emailed query goes unanswered, call the Student Communication Centre on 0800 00 1870 with your student number ready, rather than emailing several mailboxes.
