For an Old Mutual deceased estate, call the death and funeral claims line on 0860 60 7000 and email the completed claim forms to service@oldmutual.com. Old Mutual does not publish a separate deceased estates department: a deceased policyholder’s estate is handled through its death and funeral claims process, which asks for a letter of executorship when the benefit is paid to an estate.
For Old Mutual’s other numbers, see the main Old Mutual contact details page.

Official Old Mutual deceased estate route
Old Mutual’s claims page is the first-party route for reporting a death and claiming a benefit, including where the benefit must be paid into the estate. Submit claim forms by email to service@oldmutual.com, and phone 0860 60 7000 for help with a death or funeral claim.
You can also start a claim without paperwork first. Save 0860 933 333 on WhatsApp, send “Hi” and choose option 1 to begin a death and funeral claim. Funeral and Life insurance claims can also be submitted online on the claims page. If you prefer post, send claims to PO Box 1759, Cape Town 8000, South Africa.
If the deceased held an Old Mutual savings product such as 2-in-ONE, Life Plan or Savings 4 Retirement, Old Mutual asks you to speak to the adviser or to email GSEnquiries@oldmutual.com, including the ID number, policy number and your contact details.
The general call centre is 0860 933 333, open Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 and closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
What you need before contacting Old Mutual
- The ID number and death certificate of the deceased. The death must be registered with Home Affairs first.
- South African banking details for the payment.
- A letter of executorship when the benefit needs to be paid to an estate.
- The completed claim forms. Old Mutual lists the Death benefit claim form, the Beneficiary claims form, the certificate of medical attendant and the declaration by police.
Old Mutual’s 2019 death claim guide adds detail on the estate papers: a letter of executorship is needed if the estate is worth more than R250 000, and a letter of authority if it is worth less. The letter of authority must show the Old Mutual policy number and the claim value. Once the letter is issued, the executor opens a bank account in the name of the estate. The guide notes that the Master may take four to six weeks to issue the letter. That 2019 guide gave claims@oldmutual.com for documents, but the current claims page names service@oldmutual.com.
Step-by-step contact process
- Register the death with Home Affairs and obtain the death certificate.
- If the benefit is paid to the estate, the executor obtains a letter of executorship (or a letter of authority) from the Master of the High Court.
- Download the relevant death claim forms from the Old Mutual claims page, or start the claim online or on WhatsApp 0860 933 333 (option 1).
- Email the completed forms and documents to service@oldmutual.com, or post them to PO Box 1759, Cape Town 8000. Phone 0860 60 7000 if you need help.
Old Mutual says it aims to pay final expenses death benefits within 48 hours, and all other death claims within 15 working days after a valid claim is approved.
Escalation route
Old Mutual does not publish a separate escalation line for deceased estate claims on its claims page. Follow up on 0860 60 7000 or through the general call centre on 0860 933 333, quoting the policy number and any claim reference you were given.
For other insurers, browse the insurance and medical aid hub or the insurance directory O listings.
