Funeral cover and claims support
Emerald Life’s products are the Care Family Funeral Plan, the Advanced Funeral Plan Family and the Advanced Funeral Plan Pensioner and Family.
For help with a funeral claim and for repatriation, phone Emerald-Life-On-Call on 0860 555 991. This support service is provided by FMS. Any change to your policy must be requested in writing on an Emerald Life form.
If you held a Lion Life Limited policy, it was transferred to Emerald Life under Section 50, and Emerald Life says the benefits are unchanged.
Eligibility and policy requirements
- Citizenship: the lives assured and the beneficiary must all be South African citizens. Foreign nationals are not covered.
- Waiting periods: 6 months for death from natural causes, 12 months for suicide and none for accidental death. Premiums are still payable during the waiting periods.
- No investment value: the policy has no cash, surrender, paid-up or loan value and cannot be ceded.
Emerald Life (Pty) Ltd holds microinsurer licence MI001 and is an authorised financial services provider, FSP 44962.
Complaints and escalation route
Complaints must be made in writing and signed, with a copy of your ID and proof of your banking details. Send them to complaints@emeraldlife.co.za, or hand them in at any Emerald Life branch.
