Absa Debit Orders Contact Details
A debit order you did not expect on your Absa account can usually be dealt with without calling anyone. Absa lets you reverse or stop smaller debit orders yourself in its banking app and online banking, and it uses DebiCheck to make you approve new debit orders before they run. This page covers what you can do yourself, where the limits are, and which Absa line to use when self-service is not enough. Everything was read from absa.co.za and Absa’s online banking help pages on 14 September 2026.
ContactDetails.co.za is independent and cannot see your account. For every other Absa department, see Absa contact details.

What you need before contacting
- The debit order as it appears on your statement: the company name, the amount and the date it went off.
- Whether it is a debit order you once agreed to and want to stop, or one you never authorised. The first is a contract matter with the company; the second may be fraud.
- Access to the Absa Banking App or online banking, since that is the fastest route for amounts within the limit.
Step-by-step contact process
- Reverse or stop it yourself. In the Absa app or online banking, open the debit order, choose Reverse payment, Stop future payments or both, pick a reason, tick the disclaimer and continue. Absa’s help page says only debit orders under R500 can be reversed or stopped online, and that if you choose to reverse only, you cannot then stop future payments online.
- For larger amounts, contact Absa on 08600 08600 or visit a branch.
- Tell the company too. A reversal gets your money back but does not cancel the agreement behind the debit order. Cancel in writing with the company so it does not simply resubmit.
- Deal with DebiCheck requests as they arrive. When a company creates a DebiCheck debit order, Absa sends a code to your cellphone and you approve or reject it in the app, on online banking under Payments and Authorisations, at an Absa ATM under Other transactions, or on *120*2277# option 9. If you reject it, Absa will not authorise it.
Escalation route
If a debit order was taken without your permission, report it to the Absa fraud hotline on 0860 557 557 rather than only reversing it. If Absa does not resolve a debit order complaint, use the Complaint Resolution Suite on 0800 41 41 41 (weekdays 08:00 to 16:30) or actionline@absa.co.za, and keep the reference.
If the bank’s final answer does not settle it, banking complaints go to the National Financial Ombud Scheme on 0860 800 900 or info@nfosa.co.za. Nobody from Absa will ask for your PIN, password or a one-time PIN to reverse a debit order.
