To report fraud on a Capitec personal account, call 0860 10 20 43, which is answered 24 hours a day, or WhatsApp 067 418 9565. Business banking clients report fraud on 0860 30 92 50, and Capitec’s fraud centre gives +27 21 941 1377 for calls from outside South Africa. Phishing emails and scam SMSs can be sent to phishing@capitecbank.co.za. These routes were read in the Fraud centre and Contact us sections of capitecbank.co.za on 16 September 2026.

ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory, not Capitec. We cannot stop a card, block an account or trace a transaction, so if money is at risk, phone Capitec first and read this page afterwards.

Capitec does not run a separate fraud hotline: fraud reports go to the same numbers as client care. Two inconsistencies on Capitec’s own site are worth knowing. The identity theft page prints 0860 10 20 34 in one sentence, while that page’s later text and every other Capitec page use 0860 10 20 43, so use 43. And the Contact us page gives +27 21 440 3580 for international callers, whereas the fraud and lost card pages give +27 21 941 1377; both are Capitec numbers.

The personal Client Care Centre runs 24 hours, and the WhatsApp line from 06:00 to 22:00. Branch addresses and trading hours are in Find a branch on capitecbank.co.za. Capitec’s contact page publishes no walk-in fraud office.

What you need before contacting

Capitec tells clients to call when they are a victim of fraud, see transactions they did not make, believe their personal or banking information has been compromised, lose a phone or card, or lose network connectivity for longer than usual. That last one matters because a sudden loss of signal can mean your number has been moved to another SIM; Capitec says to ask your network to deactivate the number and to tell the bank straight away.

Have the details of the transactions or messages involved to hand, and be ready for Capitec to ask for an affidavit completed at the SAPS. Capitec states that it will never ask for your passwords or PINs by call, SMS, email or direct message.

Step-by-step contact process

  1. Report the fraud to Capitec on the matching number above and keep the case reference.
  2. Capitec then finds out what happened, stops the account, cards or transacting channels involved, and opens a case file.
  3. Open a case at the SAPS and keep a copy, since Capitec may ask for it.
  4. When fraud is confirmed, the case goes to Capitec’s Fraud Investigation department, which may contact you, and Capitec reports the outcome to you when the investigation ends.
  5. If your ID or personal details were exposed, check free credit reports from Experian, TransUnion and XDS for accounts opened in your name, as Capitec suggests.

The app can also confirm whether a caller really is Capitec. Before an agent phones, you get an in-app notification. During the call, a green banner reading “We’re on a call with you” shows the consultant’s name; a red banner reading “You’re NOT on a call with Capitec” means the call is not verified, and the app blocks certain risky transactions until it ends. Hang up and use the free in-app calling feature instead.

Escalation route

  1. If you are unhappy with how the case was handled, submit a complaint through Get in touch on capitecbank.co.za; unresolved complaints are escalated to complaintmanagement@capitecbank.co.za.
  2. For a dispute Capitec does not resolve, the National Financial Ombud Scheme is free: call 0860 800 900 or email info@nfosa.co.za.

Capitec also says it will never phone you and ask you to send cash, move money to a “safe account”, switch on online banking or do any other app transaction to stop or reverse fraud or an unauthorised debit order. A message that gives you a different number to call is a warning sign; use only the numbers above.
