Capitec Emergency Contact Details
Capitec does not have a separate emergency number. In a banking emergency, such as a stolen card, a snatched phone or money leaving your account, call the Client Care Centre on 0860 10 20 43, which Capitec says is answered 24 hours a day, or +27 21 941 1377 from outside South Africa. For a death covered by a Capitec funeral policy, the burial repatriation line is 0860 77 75 54. We read these on capitecbank.co.za on 16 September 2026.
ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory, not Capitec. We cannot freeze a card or lock an app for you, so use the Capitec channels below first.
Official contact channels
| Emergency | What Capitec says to do |
|---|---|
| Personal card stolen, or fraud suspected | Stop the card on the app (Cards, select the card, Stop card), on WhatsApp 067 418 9565 (Main Menu, Self-Service, Stop Card), on USSD *120*3279# option 7, or call 0860 10 20 43 |
| Card misplaced but probably not stolen | Freeze it on the app instead of stopping it |
| Phone with the Capitec app lost or stolen | Call 0860 10 20 43 to deactivate the app, or go to a branch |
| Scam or fraud on a personal account | Report it to the SAPS and call 0860 10 20 43, or WhatsApp 067 418 9565 |
| Business card lost or stolen, or business fraud | Stop it in online banking, or call 0860 30 92 50 and choose option 1 (24 hours) |
| Calling from outside South Africa | +27 21 941 1377 (fraud and lost card pages) or +27 21 440 3580 (contact page) |
| A death, and the family needs the body transported for burial | Burial repatriation: 0860 77 75 54, the app, or WhatsApp 067 418 9565 |
Capitec prints two different international numbers, both on its own domain; the fraud and lost card pages use +27 21 941 1377. The WhatsApp line runs from 06:00 to 22:00, so after 22:00 use the app or the 24 hour phone line. Capitec’s written channel, ClientCare@capitecbank.co.za, is not suited to an emergency that needs a card stopped now.
What this organisation provides
Capitec Bank Limited (registration 1980/003695/06, FSP 46669, NCRCP13) runs personal and business accounts, and sells funeral and life cover through Capitec Life. Its emergency tools sit mostly in the app, and choosing the right one matters because some cannot be undone:
- Stop card is permanent. The card closes at once and every transaction and subscription linked to it declines. Capitec says to use this when a card is stolen or you suspect fraud.
- Freeze card is temporary and only available on the app. The card is blocked but not closed, all transactions stop while it is frozen, and if you find it you unfreeze the same card. A frozen card cannot be added to Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Garmin Pay.
- Replace card gives you a new card and card number while existing payments and subscriptions continue. Physical replacements carry a fee; virtual cards can be recreated on the app.
- Feature Lock lets you lock items on the app’s Transact menu with your PIN or biometrics. Unlocking needs a selfie and a compulsory four hour delay, which Capitec presents as protection if a phone is lost or stolen.
Address and operating information
If you cannot phone, Capitec says you can report fraud or a lost phone at any Capitec branch; branch addresses and trading hours are in Find a branch on capitecbank.co.za. Capitec warns that asking your network to block a stolen phone does not stop criminals using banking apps over WiFi, which is why it asks you to have the app deactivated too. It also lists losing network signal for longer than usual as a reason to call, as that can point to a SIM swap.
For the burial repatriation service, which Capitec says is provided by FMS, a Capitec-approved provider, have your name, address and contact number, your policy or ID number, and the deceased’s name, ID number and place of death ready. FMS then contacts you. The service covers moving the deceased from South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho or Mozambique to a funeral home in South Africa.
Support and escalation routes
- Stop or freeze the card, or have the app deactivated, first. Investigation can wait; blocking cannot.
- Open a case at the SAPS for theft or fraud and keep the case number.
- If you are unhappy with how Capitec handled it, use the Get in touch complaint form on capitecbank.co.za, which is escalated to Capitec’s complaint management team (complaintmanagement@capitecbank.co.za).
- If that fails, the National Financial Ombud Scheme takes banking complaints on 0860 800 900 or info@nfosa.co.za.
Emergencies are when scammers strike. Capitec says it will never ask for your passwords or PINs, and a genuine Capitec call shows a green “We’re on a call with you” banner in the app.
