Which FNB loans number should you call?

FNB’s Talk to Us directory separates loans into Home Loans, Loan Queries, Loan Applications and Temporary Loans, under both “For Me” and “For Business”. If you already have an FNB personal loan and want to ask about your balance, repayments or the loan account, call Loan Queries on 087 730 5596; the same number handles temporary loans. If you want to apply for a personal loan, FNB lists Loan Applications on 087 335 8630, although its Personal Loan page also says you can contact 087 730 5596 to get a personal loan. Bond and home loan questions go to the separate Home Loans numbers. For business banking, the directory lists 087 736 2247 for both loan queries and loan applications.

Product or service support

How to apply for an FNB personal loan

FNB says you can apply on the FNB App, on cellphone banking by dialling *120*321#, through your Private Advisor, or by calling 087 730 5596. FNB personal loans go up to R450,000, with repayment terms of up to 72 months.

Paying your FNB loan

FNB suggests keeping enough money in your account for the loan debit order and matching the debit order date to your salary date. You can pay extra by transfer or scheduled transfer on the FNB App, online banking or cellphone banking, or by deposit at an FNB ATM or branch.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

To qualify, FNB says you must be 18 or older, permanently employed or self-employed, a permanent South African resident, and have your salary paid directly into your bank account.

Existing FNB customers need no documents if their details are up to date: a green barcoded ID or smart ID card, a stable income paid into the FNB account for at least 3 months, and proof of residence not older than 3 months. If you are not an FNB customer, you need your ID, proof of residence not older than 3 months, and proof of income: your latest 3 months’ payslips or bank statements, or an ITA34 or 3 months’ bank statements if you are self-employed.

FNB personal loan features and costs

  • Interest: a personalised fixed rate; up to 5% per month for short-term loans of 1 to 6 months, and between 15.15% and 28.00% per year for long-term loans, according to FNB’s page.
  • Early settlement: FNB says it charges no penalty for settling early or paying extra.
  • Take-a-break in January: a payment break every January for loans on terms over 6 months that are up to date.
  • Top up: add funds to your existing FNB personal loan instead of taking a new loan, avoiding another initiation fee of up to R1,207.50.
  • Credit life insurance: mandatory on long-term loans, through FNB’s Customer Protection Plan or a suitable policy you cede.

FNB’s example is a R30,000 loan over 24 months at 18% per year, repaid at an estimated R1,796 a month, including a R69 monthly service fee, a R100 credit life premium and a R1,207.50 initiation fee, for a total cost of credit of R41,445. FNB also says the credit switch initiation fee is waived from 1 July 2026 if you consolidate other credit into an FNB personal loan.

Escalation route

If Loan Queries cannot resolve a problem, FNB says to call 087 575 9408 for general personal banking needs, or visit a branch using FNB’s branch locator on fnb.co.za. The Talk to Us directory listed under Sources sits in FNB’s complaints resolution section.
