FNB online personal banking 24/7: Secure Chat

The FNB Online Banking and FNB App phone lines are not open around the clock, but FNB’s directory says you can chat directly to a team of bankers 24/7 via Secure Chat on the FNB App or Online Banking. FNB describes Secure Chat as an instant messaging platform. On the FNB App, log in, select Messages, then Secure Chat, then My Team of Bankers, and start chatting. You can send a photo from your camera or gallery in the chat, up to 5MB per upload. This is the closest FNB offers to contacting online banking by email or message, because FNB’s directory does not list a separate online banking email address.

FNB Online Banking help: reset your password and register the app

  • Reset your password on the FNB App: launch the app, select Login, then Forgot Password, enter your card and PIN, choose and confirm a new password, and enter the OTP sent to you.
  • Register the FNB App with Online Banking: download the app, select Set Up My Banking App, then “I have Online Banking”, enter the OTP sent to your inContact number, accept the terms, and enter your card and PIN, or your account number if you have no card on the profile. You may be asked to do a selfie check.
  • New to the app: FNB says you start with limited access to some transactions and limits, which increase as you use the app regularly.

Where to log in safely

FNB Online Banking is on FNB’s own website, www.fnb.co.za, and the site’s Tools menu has Register and Forgot Username or Password options. Type the address yourself rather than following a link in an SMS or email, and use the FNB App where you can.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

The number linked to your FNB Online Banking profile

FNB sends one-time PINs and account notifications to the cellphone number on your profile, which FNB calls your inContact number. inContact is FNB’s free service that sends messages about money going in and out of your account, including messages explaining why a transaction was declined. To qualify, you need an active FNB Personal, Business or Easy account and a valid cellphone number. When you register the FNB App using your Online Banking details, FNB’s guide says you enter the OTP sent to your inContact number, and you receive an inContact message confirming the app is set up. If that number has changed and you no longer receive OTPs, call Online Banking on 087 575 0000 or visit a branch.

Escalation route

If you suspect fraud on your online banking profile, call 087 575 9444 straight away, or +27 11 369 2924 from abroad. For other unresolved issues, the Talk to Us directory listed under Sources sits in FNB’s complaints resolution section.
