MBD runs its payments through a separate site from its main one, and on a separate number. mbdinc.co.za is Munnik Basson Dagama Incorporated, the attorneys, on 011 560 6111. Account payments go to MBD Digital Collections at mbdzero.datafree.co, whose own call centre number is 011 560 6000. Dialling the attorneys about a payment arrangement is the common wrong turn. Read on 6 September 2026.

Where to pay

  • Payments call centre: 011 560 6000
  • Payments portal: mbdzero.datafree.co – a data-free site, so it loads without using your airtime or data bundle
  • Attorneys switchboard: 011 560 6111, info@mbdinc.co.za, 4th Floor, 115 West Street, Sandown, Sandton, 2196

The data-free hosting is the practical point. The portal is reverse-billed, which means you can log in, check a balance, make an arrangement and pay from a phone with no data left. That is deliberate, and it is the cheapest way to deal with the account.

The eight ways MBD accepts a payment

  • Digital self service – log in on the portal and pay or arrange
  • Quick Pay – cheque and debit cards, no login needed
  • Absa ATM cash deposit – free of charge at any of about 2 000 deposit-taking Absa ATMs, and you do not need an Absa account. Take your ID number, the MBD reference number and the full name of the person the account is in
  • EFT or a direct deposit at the bank, using the reference number
  • Debit order, arranged by telephone or through the self-service portal
  • EasyPay at a till – Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, Woolworths, Spar, Boxer, Lewis, Best Electric, Lifestyle Living, MTN Banking or Wizzit
  • Kazang outlets, which reach rural and peri-urban areas, using only the reference number
  • CallPay – a card payment taken in real time while you are on the call

MBD states that not every option is available on every account, because the options depend on which client the debt belongs to. Confirm on 011 560 6000 which ones apply to yours before you drive to a till.

The reference number is the whole transaction

Every one of those routes turns on the MBD reference number rather than your name. A payment made without it can sit unallocated, which looks exactly like a payment never made. Write the reference on the deposit slip, keep the EasyPay or Kazang receipt, and check the balance on the portal a few days later rather than assuming it landed.

Who you are actually dealing with

MBD is a trading division of Nutun Business Services South Africa (Pty) Ltd, owned by Nutun Limited, and it holds Debt Collectors Act registration DCA No. 0030960/08. A registered debt collector must give you that number on request, and the Council for Debt Collectors is the body that hears a complaint about collector conduct – fees charged, the manner of contact, or a refusal to give you a statement. Ask for a full statement in writing before you agree to an arrangement, and never pay into banking details sent to you by message without confirming them on the number above.
