Nedbank Credit Card Machine Contact Details

A Nedbank card machine is a merchant product, not a banking one. Speedpoint devices, settlement and terminal faults are handled by merchant services on 0860 114 966, and that desk is listed as available all hours, because a dead terminal on a Saturday is a lost trading day.

Official contact channels

  • Merchant services and card machines, all hours: 0860 114 966
  • From outside South Africa: +27 10 217 4005
  • To open a merchant facility, the route is your business banking division rather than the merchant support line: 0800 116 400 for turnover under R30 million, 0860 555 333 for R10 million to R750 million
  • Business banking mailbox: business@nedbank.co.za
  • A card machine query cannot be resolved on the personal banking line, and the personal contact centre cannot see your merchant account

What merchant services covers

  • Terminal faults, paper, connectivity and swapping a broken device
  • Settlement: when the money from a day trading actually lands in your account, and why a batch has not paid out
  • Authorisation problems on a transaction you are taking, and voice authorisation where a terminal cannot get an approval
  • Chargebacks, where a customer disputes a payment and the amount is reversed out of your account. These have deadlines and require you to produce the slip or proof of delivery

Before you sign a merchant agreement

  • Ask for the merchant service fee as a percentage per transaction type. Debit, credit and premium cards are usually priced differently, and the headline rate is normally the cheapest one
  • Ask about the settlement period: same day, next day or later. Cash flow in a small business lives or dies on this
  • Check the device rental, the contract term and the early cancellation penalty separately from the transaction rate
  • Confirm whether the terminal is on a SIM or on your wifi, because that decides what happens in a network outage

Card machine fraud to watch for

  • Never let a customer or a stranger handle your terminal to enter an amount. Key it in yourself and let them see the screen before they tap or insert
  • Nobody legitimate needs a refund processed to a different card. That is the standard merchant scam and the money is gone once it settles
  • Only accept a technician who you called, with an identity document you have checked. A swapped terminal captures every card that goes through it
  • Report a suspected compromise on 0860 114 966 and stop using the device immediately
