“Loan without a payslip” is one of the most reliable markers of a lending scam. Registered credit providers are required by law to check affordability, which means they must see proof of income.

To report fraud, Capitec personal banking is 0860 10 20 43, or WhatsApp 067 418 9565. ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory and is not Capitec.

Affordability checks are a legal duty, not red tape

Under the National Credit Act, a registered credit provider must assess whether you can afford the repayments before lending. Doing otherwise is reckless credit, and it is unlawful.

So an advert promising credit with no payslip, no credit check, no paperwork and guaranteed approval is describing something a legitimate lender is not permitted to do. That is the tell.

How the loan scam actually works

Never hand over your ID document, bank card or PIN to a “loan agent”. And never let anyone use your details to apply on your behalf.

Checking a lender is real

Every legitimate credit provider in South Africa is registered with the National Credit Regulator and carries an NCR registration number. Ask for it, and verify it with the NCR rather than taking the number at face value.
