Bidvest Insurance does not publish a service plan among its products. Its motor range is warranty and insurance cover, which is a different thing, so if you hold something sold to you as a Bidvest service plan, start by checking your policy schedule for which company actually underwrites it.

Official provider route

Product or service support

The products Bidvest Insurance publishes are mechanical warranty, tyre insurance, legal cover, scratch and dent insurance, car theft insurance, shortfall cover, car deposit insurance, panic alert insurance and comprehensive insurance. None of these is a service plan. The distinction matters: a service plan pays for scheduled servicing such as the manufacturer prescribed services, whereas a mechanical warranty pays for the failure of a covered component. A service plan will not fix a broken gearbox and a warranty will not pay for your routine service.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

Bidvest Insurance Limited is registration 1997/019461/06, a licensed non-life insurer and an authorised financial services provider under FSP number 46395. Quote your policy number and vehicle registration on any query. If your plan was arranged through a motor dealership, the paperwork may name a different underwriter or administrator from the dealer group that sold it, and the schedule rather than the brand on the folder is what determines who must answer you.

Escalation route

Use the claims and policy administration routes on the Bidvest Insurance site, and its separate complaints route if a claim is declined, keeping every reference. If the insurer does not resolve it, a complaint about the insurer or the claim goes to the National Financial Ombud on 0860 800 900, and a complaint about the advice given when the product was sold goes to the FAIS Ombud on 012 762 5000. A dispute about the servicing or repair work itself, rather than about the cover, is a motor industry matter for the Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa on 0861 164 672. Bidvest Insurance also publishes a right to repair position, which is relevant if you are being told where your vehicle may be serviced.
