Cipla’s South African head office is in Cape Town, and the number you need depends on whether you are reporting a side effect, complaining about a product, or asking a business question. Cipla separates those deliberately.

Cipla publishes a named individual for general enquiries and requests. That is a personal work mailbox rather than a department, so it is not repeated here; it changes when staff do. The head office number reaches the same building.

Reporting a side effect

The Customer Care and Drug Safety line, 080 222 6662, is the same number for both, and Cipla runs a separate Drug Safety Reporting page for written reports. A suspected adverse reaction should also go to SAHPRA, the national regulator, because a manufacturer report and a regulator report do different things: the manufacturer investigates the batch, and SAHPRA sees the national pattern across all manufacturers.

• Keep the pack. The batch number and expiry date printed on it are what let a specific production run be traced.
• Note the date the medicine was started and the date the reaction appeared, and what else you were taking.
• Tell the prescribing doctor or the dispensing pharmacist as well. They can adjust treatment; a report cannot.

Product complaints are a different route

A product complaint — a broken tablet, a short count, packaging that looks wrong, a suspected counterfeit — has its own Product Complaints route on the site, separate from drug safety. Suspected counterfeit medicine is worth flagging as such explicitly, because it triggers a different investigation from a manufacturing defect.
