In a February 2020 post on its blog, Hertz announced a WhatsApp line for booking help on +27 66 416 0932. The current contact page does not list it, so use the numbers above first.
What this organisation provides
Hertz Rent A Car South Africa hires out cars, bakkies and motorcycles from branches in South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. It also runs chauffeur hire, monthly rentals, business accounts and car sales. In April 2025 Hertz announced that Thrifty Car Rental and Dollar Car Rental now operate under the same banner, and it names Julian Visagie as CEO of Hertz Southern Africa.
Before you collect a vehicle, the Hertz FAQ says you need a credit card in the main renter’s name and a valid driver’s licence; international visitors also need a passport. The minimum rental age is 18. The FAQ lists a R2,000 deposit on credit card rentals, a R300 fee for cancelling an online booking, an R800 accident administration fee per incident and an R500 fee for each additional driver. It adds that banks can take up to 21 working days to release a deposit hold.

Hertz does not publish a street address for its head office. The contact page gives the postal address as PO Box 145, Cape Town International Airport, 7525. Send formal written correspondence there or to the customer services mailbox.

Every branch has its own page under Car Rental Locations on hertz.co.za with its number and hours. Hours differ widely: several town branches close at noon on Saturdays and do not open on Sundays.
Support and escalation routes
- For a problem during a rental, contact the branch you collected from and keep your rental agreement number to hand.
- If the branch cannot help, or the issue arises after you return the car, write to Hertz customer services at cust.relations@hertz.co.za with the agreement number and any documents, or call +27 21 935 4500.
- Hertz Rent a Car is listed as a member of SAVRALA, the Southern African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association. SAVRALA says it is not an ombud, but it will review unresolved disputes sent with documents to gm@savrala.co.za.
