Sunday Times Contact Details
The Sunday Times publishes four role-based email addresses. Letters to the editor go to letters@sundaytimes.co.za, news tip-offs to newstipoff@sundaytimes.co.za, the news desk is suntimes@sundaytimes.co.za and Business Times is btimes@sundaytimes.co.za. The publisher, Arena Holdings, is on 011 280 3000. We read this on timeslive.co.za on 24 September 2026.
Sunday Times email addresses
| What you are sending | Where |
|---|---|
| A letter to the editor | letters@sundaytimes.co.za |
| A news tip-off | newstipoff@sundaytimes.co.za |
| The news desk | suntimes@sundaytimes.co.za |
| Business Times | btimes@sundaytimes.co.za |
| A letter to TimesLIVE, not the paper | letters@thetimes.co.za |
| A website or app fault | timeslivenews@arena.africa |
| General feedback to the publisher | feedback@arena.africa |
Note that the Sunday Times and TimesLIVE take letters at different addresses. The newspaper is letters@sundaytimes.co.za; the website is letters@thetimes.co.za. Sending to the wrong one does not get your letter into the paper.
We list only role addresses here. The contact page also publishes individual journalists’ names, direct-dial numbers and personal work mailboxes, and we do not republish those: they change when someone moves job, and a tip sent to a reporter who has left simply disappears. The role addresses outlive the people.
How to send a letter they will print
The Sunday Times publishes its requirements, and they are strict enough that ignoring them is the usual reason a letter goes nowhere.
- Do not send an attachment. The paper states plainly that it does not accept them. Put the letter in the body of the email.
- Sign it and give your details. Correspondents are asked to sign letters and provide a name, a street address and a daytime contact number.
- Pseudonyms are sometimes acceptable, but the paper still wants your real details, so supply them and ask separately if you need the name withheld.
- The editor reserves the right to edit letters.
The street address and daytime number are not published with your letter; they let the paper verify you are a real person before printing something under your name.
Opinion pieces have their own rules
An opinion piece is not a letter, and the paper sets two conditions worth knowing before you spend an afternoon on one.
It will not publish a piece already sent to another newspaper. Submitting the same article to several titles at once disqualifies it, so decide where you want it before you send.
An uncommissioned piece carries no guarantee of publication, and the paper reserves the right to edit all opinion pieces.
Tip-offs
newstipoff@sundaytimes.co.za is the address for a story you think the paper should investigate, and it is the one to use rather than a named reporter.
Be aware of what it is and is not. It is an ordinary email address, not a secure drop and not an anonymous hotline. Your message carries your address. The Sunday Times publishes no encrypted submission channel, so if confidentiality matters, say so in the first message and agree how to proceed before sending documents.
For anything urgent or fast-moving, the news desk address suntimes@sundaytimes.co.za is monitored as a desk rather than as an individual’s inbox.
Other things people phone about
| Back copies of the Sunday Times | 011 280 3933 |
|---|---|
| Republishing or syndicating material | 011 280 3916, syndication@arena.africa |
| Arena Holdings switchboard | 011 280 3000 |
| Advertising | The advertising information page on timeslive.co.za |
| Address | Hill on Empire, 16 Empire Road, Johannesburg, 2193 |
Back copies have their own direct number, 011 280 3933. That is worth knowing, because it is the request the main switchboard is least able to help with.
Republishing an article, whether in print or online, needs permission from syndication rather than from the journalist who wrote it.
Which title you actually need
Arena Holdings publishes a number of titles from the same building, and a query sent to the wrong one gets forwarded at best.
Its stable includes the Sunday Times, Business Day, Sowetan, The Herald, Daily Dispatch, Wanted Online and SA Home Owner, alongside TimesLIVE.
So the Sunday Times is a weekly newspaper and TimesLIVE is the daily news website. They share a building and a publisher but are edited separately, which is exactly why the letters addresses differ.
A subscription question is a publisher matter rather than an editorial one, and runs through the subscriptions section of timeslive.co.za rather than through any of the editorial addresses above.
