Applying to Sol Plaatje University runs through an online application system, and the contact you need depends on which faculty your programme sits in. SPU publishes a separate applications mailbox for each of its four faculties, a general admissions mailbox and a single switchboard. Writing to the faculty mailbox rather than the switchboard is the difference between reaching the people who actually process applications and being routed there second hand.
Task scope
This covers undergraduate application enquiries: problems with the online application system, questions about whether you meet the admission requirements, and following up on an application already submitted. Financial aid and postgraduate study are handled through their own sections of the university website and are not part of the admissions route below, so a funding question sent to an applications mailbox will be forwarded rather than answered.

The university also names a Faculty Application Champion for each faculty and prints a direct extension beside each name. Those are deliberately not reproduced here. The names change from one application cycle to the next, and the two pages that list them do not agree with one another: the contact page and the how to apply page give a different name and a different direct number for the Faculty of Education. The faculty mailboxes above appear identically on both pages, which makes them the route that survives the cycle.
SPU runs three campuses, all in Kimberley:

Requirements
SPU sets a minimum academic requirement for each study programme, based on the results achieved in the South African National Senior Certificate examinations. Applicants holding certificates from a different examination system are not excluded, but are considered individually rather than against the published NSC minimums.
The university calculates an Admissions Points Score, the APS, from those results, and publishes the calculation method on its admission requirements page. Work out your own score before you write to a faculty mailbox, because it is the first thing you will be asked for.
One caveat matters more than the numbers, and SPU states it twice on the same page. Meeting the minimum requirement does not mean you will automatically be admitted. The final decision rests on your academic performance and on whether space remains in the programme, and performing above the minimum is what improves the odds. An application that clears the minimum and is still declined has not gone wrong; it has met a space constraint.
Check the year before relying on the requirements page. It is titled for one intake year while the content in it refers to the following one, so confirm which cycle the figures apply to.
Steps
- Find the minimum requirement and the APS calculation for your programme on the admission requirements page
- Apply through the online application system while applications for the cycle are open
- If the system gives trouble, email the applications mailbox for the faculty your programme sits in
- If the faculty does not resolve it, move to the general admissions mailbox
- Keep your application reference and the date of every message you send
Applications for the cycle published at the time of writing close on 31 October 2026. That date moves every year, so confirm it on the how to apply page rather than working from a copy of it elsewhere.
Escalation
Work up in order: the faculty applications mailbox, then [email protected], then the switchboard or [email protected] for anything the admissions side has not answered. Quote the application reference each time, because without it the thread starts again.
SPU is a public university and falls under the Department of Higher Education and Training, so a complaint the university has not resolved escalates out to the department on 0800 87 2222 or at [email protected]. The department also runs a career helpline on 086 999 0123 for questions about what and where to study, which is a different service from a complaint about an application.
Funding is not part of this route. The university financial aid section and NSFAS handle bursaries between them, and NSFAS decides the outcome of a bursary application rather than the university, so a funding delay and an admission delay are chased in different places even when they concern the same student.
