The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is a public university in Gauteng, formed in 2005 and operating across four campuses. The contact details below were read from the UJ contact page on 1 September 2026.

Official contact channels

The 087 number is a non-geographic line charged at a standard national rate, and is the one to try when the 011 switchboard is congested during registration.

UJ publishes direct lines and mailboxes for many individual faculty administrators. Those belong to named staff and change with appointments, so use the role addresses above and let the faculty route you internally.

Admissions and student support

UJ teaches across faculties including Education, the College of Business and Economics, Health Sciences, Science, Engineering, Humanities and Law, with admissions, financial aid, library and student support services run centrally.

Route fees separately from academics. Registration blocks, statements, outstanding balances and refunds go to [email protected]; module, timetable and results questions go to the faculty. A fee block is the single commonest reason a registration will not complete, and only student accounts can lift it.

Have your student number ready for any enquiry – UJ records are traced by it, and an email without one usually returns a request for it before anything else happens.

Campus and address information

UJ operates four campuses in Johannesburg:

UJ publishes campus maps, road maps, GPS coordinates and virtual campus tours for each site. Check which campus your faculty sits on before travelling – the four are spread across the city and Auckland Park alone has two separate campuses on different roads.

Operating hours are not published on the contact page. Protection Services covers campus security.

Escalation routes

Start with the faculty or the relevant service, keep the reference number, and escalate in writing if it stalls. UJ runs a whistleblowing hotline for fraud and misconduct, which is separate from academic or administrative complaints.

Funding questions about a bursary or loan belong with NSFAS or the funder rather than with UJ student accounts, even though a funding shortfall shows up as a UJ fee block.

If UJ does not resolve a matter internally, a student may approach the Council on Higher Education on quality and standards, or the Public Protector, since UJ is a public institution.
