UJ publishes no operating hours for Student Finance. We checked its student finance contact pages for all four campuses and no hours appear anywhere. The closest thing to a general line is the call centre on 011 559 7301 or 011 559 7303, with studentaccounts@uj.ac.za for account queries. We read this on uj.ac.za on 24 September 2026.

The call centre is listed under the Bunting Road campus but is not campus-specific in practice, and it is paired with the studentaccounts address. It is the best first call if you do not know which desk you need.
Refunds are handled from Doornfontein on 011 559 7414, regardless of which campus you study at. That is the one function that is genuinely centralised.
About those hours
Since UJ does not publish them, the practical approach is to treat Student Finance as a normal university weekday office and call mid-morning, avoiding lunchtime and the last hour of the day.
Two things will save you more time than knowing the hours would. First, email rather than phone for anything that needs a document or creates a record: the role mailboxes below are monitored as desks rather than by one person. Second, avoid the registration period entirely if your query is not urgent, because every student contacts finance at once.
Always quote your student number. A finance query without one cannot be looked up.

UJ lists individual staff members’ personal work mailboxes against most of these desks. We do not republish those. They change when someone moves job, and a funding query sent to a mailbox nobody is reading is worse than no query at all. The numbers above reach the same desks.
NSFAS has a different address per campus

Note that Doornfontein uses the unsuffixed nsfas@uj.ac.za, which looks like a general address but is the Doornfontein desk. Use the one for your own campus.
There is a fault worth knowing about here. On UJ’s page, the Bunting Road NSFAS address is displayed as nsfasapb@uj.ac.za, but the link behind it actually sends to nsfasapk@uj.ac.za, the Kingsway address. We checked the link directly.
So if you are an APB student and you click that address rather than typing it, your NSFAS query goes to the wrong campus. Type nsfasapb@uj.ac.za by hand rather than clicking.
Which desk you actually need
The names UJ uses are not obvious, and picking wrong costs a transfer.
Student debtors is for what you owe: your fee account and arrangements on it. External collections is a later stage, once an account has been handed over. Student accounts and the call centre handle general account queries and statements.
External bursaries covers funding from outside UJ, such as an employer or a foundation. Internal bursaries, listed only for Kingsway, covers UJ’s own awards. NSFAS is its own desk entirely.
UJ also publishes, under Student Finance, an acknowledgement of debt application, a refund application, banking details, fees and financial statements, student loans, and a “need to know processes before registration” page. Several fee questions are answered there without a call.
