Osindisweni Hospital is a KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health district hospital on Oakford Road, about 9 km from Verulam and 40 km from central Durban, serving mainly the Ndwedwe and northern eThekwini communities. The hospital lists free services for children under six, pregnant patients and family planning. Outpatients receive a blue carrier card; chronic patients get pink repeat cards and see a doctor every six months, so bring your card to every visit.

Address and operating information

From the M41 at Mount Edgecombe, drive into Verulam, follow the signs for Oakford and then Osindisweni. The main entrance is on the right after the Vodacom tower. Visiting hours are 13:00 to 14:00 and 18:00 to 19:00 every day; an older page on the same site still shows earlier times, which are out of date.

The hospital grew out of a Dominican mission at Oakford dating to 1889. Its TB hospital opened in 1963 and the general hospital in 1968, before the state took it over in 1984.
