AVBOB funeral cover prices and premiums
The only funeral premiums AVBOB prints on its website are for the Insurance Scheme for Pensioners (see below). The Cashback Funeral Cover and Extended Family Funeral Cover pages show cover amounts but no premium table, so for those plans you need a quote: call 0861 28 26 21 or apply online at selfservice.avbob.co.za/applyonline.
Premiums can be paid in cash at an AVBOB branch, by debit order, by stop order, or at PEP, Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers or Usave stores using a Pay@ reference from the AVBOB website.
AVBOB funeral cover for pensioners
The AVBOB Insurance Scheme for Pensioners is open to senior citizens from age 55. The main insured person must be at least 55 at the start date for a once-off single-premium policy, and at least 65 for a monthly-premium policy.
| Age of main insured | Monthly premium (R8 000 cover) | Extra cover (R2 000) |
|---|---|---|
| 65 to 74 | R150 | R30 a month |
| 75 to 79 | R180 | R40 a month |
| 80 to 84 | R220 | R50 a month |
Instead of monthly premiums you can make a once-off payment of R10 000 for R10 000 cover, for ages 55 to 84 and for 85 and older. Extra cover can also be bought with a once-off R2 000 payment. The extra R2 000 pays municipal grave costs, tombstone removal or amendment, cremation fees, payments to church officials and fresh flowers.
Monthly-premium policies have a six-month waiting period for natural death. This may be waived in part or in full if you had cover with another insurer that lapsed or was cancelled within 31 days. Once-off payment policies have no waiting period once issued and paid. For a quote, call 0861 28 26 21.
AVBOB funeral cover age limit
For the pensioners scheme, the minimum age at the start date is 55 for a once-off single premium and 65 for monthly premiums. Monthly premiums are listed up to age 84; over 84, only a once-off payment is possible. On Cashback Funeral Cover, the accidental-death double benefit applies only if the main insured dies before their 60th birthday, and children’s cover depends on their age. AVBOB does not print a single maximum entry age for Cashback cover. Its FAQ says an insured person who goes over the policy’s age limit is removed from the policy, and the premiums paid for that person are refunded to the policyholder without interest.
