CAMAF customer care hours
CAMAF prints two sets of hours on the same contact page. The customer care block gives Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 17:00 and Friday 08:00 to 16:30. The escalation section lists the same 0860 100 545 line as Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00. If you call after 16:00, expect that you may not get through, and use custcare@camaf.co.za instead.
CAMAF says a customer care consultant will give feedback within 48 hours, provided all documents were supplied, when a query cannot be settled on the first call.
CAMAF claims and hospital pre-authorisation
Send claims to claims@camaf.co.za. Questions about a claim that has already been submitted go to customer care on 0860 100 545.
Hospital admissions need pre-authorisation. Call 0860 100 544, email preauth@camaf.co.za, or log in on camaf.co.za to request the authorisation online. The same 0860 100 544 number is the one CAMAF gives for medical emergencies after hours.
CAMAF chronic medicine contacts
Members with a chronic medicine query call 0861 700 600 and choose option 1, then option 3, or email clinicalrisk@camaf.co.za. The fax number is 011 707 8622. The 0800 200 300 authorisation line is for doctors and pharmacists only, so members should not use it.
CAMAF also lists a cancer programme on 011 707 8461. Its other programmes (diabetes, emotional wellbeing, HIV, mother-to-be, musculo-skeletal, respiratory and the wellness club) are named on the contact page, each on its own tab.
How to escalate a CAMAF complaint
CAMAF sets out its own escalation order. Start with customer care on 0860 100 545 or custcare@camaf.co.za. If that does not resolve it, the query moves to the team leaders, then the customer care manager, then the chief operations officer. After that the Principal Officer refers it to the Disputes Committee, which the Board appoints.
If you have followed that process and still believe the scheme applied its rules wrongly or contravened the Medical Schemes Act, CAMAF says you may write to the Council for Medical Schemes with the full details of your case.
