Product or service support

Two different products are commonly called home loan insurance. Credit life cover pays the bond if the borrower dies or cannot work, and is regulated as a credit related policy. Homeowners cover insures the building itself and is short term insurance. They have different rules and different ombuds, so say which one you mean when you call.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

Credit life cover on a bond may be substituted with your own policy, provided the replacement gives at least equivalent cover. Homeowners cover is normally a condition of the loan itself. Either way the bond account number is what identifies the policy, since the cover is tied to the loan rather than to you personally.
