Platinum Life female cancer policy and cancer cover
Platinum Life does not offer traditional life cover. Its main products are gender-specific cancer cover, accidental debility (permanent disability from accidental causes) cover and accidental death cover. The Female Cancer Policy pays a tax-free lump sum on diagnosis of any of 8 cancers: breast, cervical, vaginal, uterine, kidney, bladder, ovarian and fallopian tube cancer, and it pays for more than one occurrence if they are unrelated. The money does not have to go to medical bills. Its Money Back Benefit pays a tax-free lump sum of 50% of all premiums paid if no claims were made: at age 65 if you took the policy at 45 or younger, otherwise 20 years after the policy started. Male Cancer cover can be added to a Female Cancer policy and pays a lump sum if your partner is diagnosed with invasive prostate, testicular, penile, kidney, bladder or male breast cancer.
Accidental debility and accidental death cover
The Accidental Debility Cover pays a tax-free lump sum for injuries such as permanent loss of an eye or eyesight, hearing in one or both ears, speech, the use of a limb at or above the wrist or ankle, or four fingers. The benefit rises by 50% if the injury comes from a violent assault, increases by 10% each year on the policy anniversary, and allows multiple claims up to the maximum. Accidental Death Cover is an add-on that Platinum Life says is usually offered later rather than at the start of the policy.
How to claim and complain
To claim, call Client Care on 0860 542 542; a graduate consultant asks a few questions, then transfers you to the Claims Department, where a dedicated claims consultant handles the claim from start to finish. Platinum Life’s Client Complaint Procedure sets out these steps:

- If it is not resolved at first contact, it is escalated to the Complaints Manager (complaintsmanager@platinumlife.co.za).
