Pineapple is a South African digital insurer offering car and household contents cover through an app rather than a branch or call centre. The most important thing to know before you try to contact them is that the main support number does not accept voice calls. Everything below was read from the Pineapple website on 31 August 2026.
Official contact channels
- General contact: 060 018 1233 – WhatsApp only, no calls
- Roadside assistance: 087 365 8615
- Emergency home assist: 011 991 8642
- General enquiries: [email protected]
- Claims: [email protected]
- Complaints: [email protected]
Pineapple states plainly on its own site that 060 018 1233 is WhatsApp only and takes no calls. Dialling it will get you nowhere. The two numbers that are voice lines are the assistance numbers – roadside on 087 365 8615 and home assist on 011 991 8642 – and those exist precisely because you cannot reasonably type a WhatsApp message at the roadside after a breakdown or a break-in.
Save both assistance numbers to your phone now rather than looking for them during an incident. That is the whole point of them.
What this organisation provides
Pineapple provides car insurance and household contents cover, sold and administered through its app. It publishes separate policy wordings for car cover, household contents and per-item cover, and those documents – not the marketing pages – set out what is actually covered.
Because the model is app-first, most policy changes, claims submissions and document retrieval happen in the app rather than through a person. Before contacting Pineapple, have your policy number and, for a claim, the date and circumstances of the incident, photographs, and for a vehicle claim the registration number and police case number where one was opened.
Use [email protected] rather than the general address for anything claim-related. Pineapple maintains separate mailboxes for a reason, and a claim sent to the general inbox is slower.
Address and operating information
Pineapple publishes an address of 4 Sandown Valley Crescent, Sandown, Sandton, Johannesburg. It is a business address rather than a walk-in service centre – there is no counter to visit, and the company does not publish support operating hours.
In practice, treat the two assistance numbers as the round-the-clock channels and WhatsApp as the business-hours one. If a claim needs to be lodged outside business hours, send it to [email protected] so the timestamp is recorded, then follow up on WhatsApp.
Support and escalation routes
Pineapple publishes a dedicated complaints mailbox, [email protected], separate from general support. Use it rather than continuing on WhatsApp, so the complaint is formally logged and dated, and keep the reference.
If Pineapple does not resolve it, escalate according to what went wrong:
- A rejected or underpaid claim, or how the policy was handled: National Financial Ombud Scheme, 0860 800 900, [email protected]
- Poor advice or a mis-sold policy: FAIS Ombud, 012 762 5000, [email protected]
With an app-based insurer, your WhatsApp thread and email trail are the record. Export or screenshot them before escalating – an ombud will want to see what was said and when.
