PMD stands for Prime Meridian Direct, a South African direct car insurer. The business now trades simply as Prime, at prime.co.za – which is why the older primemeridiandirect.co.za address no longer resolves. The contact details below were read from the official Prime contact page on 31 August 2026.
A second warning worth heeding: pmd.co.za is not this company. That domain belongs to PMD Dies and Stereos, a flexographic printing tradehouse with no connection to insurance. Its details will not help you with a policy or a claim.
Official contact channels
- Prime care centre: 011 745 7800
- Head office: 011 745 7800
- 24-hour roadside assist: 011 745 7800
- WhatsApp: 078 669 4947
- Email: [email protected]
- Care centre hours: weekdays 08:00 to 17:00
Prime runs one number across the care centre, head office and roadside assistance. The hours distinction matters: the care centre is a weekday service, but roadside assist on the same number is published as a 24-hour service. If you are stranded outside business hours, that number is still the one to dial.
Prime also runs a website chat assistant and a call-back request, both linked from its contact page.
What this organisation provides
Prime sells car insurance directly to the public rather than through brokers, with online quotes, a client login portal and a network of approved repairers it publishes on its own site.
Using an approved repairer matters after an accident. Insurers generally warrant work done by their own approved network, and going outside it can affect both the repair guarantee and what the insurer will pay. Ask which repairer is approved for your area before authorising any work.
Before contacting Prime, have your policy number and identity number. For a claim, add the date, time and place of the incident, the other party details and vehicle registration where applicable, and the SAPS case number if one was opened. Photographs taken at the scene are worth more than any later description.
Address and operating information
Prime publishes its care centre and head office on the same 011 number, a Johannesburg geographic line charged as a normal call. It does not present a walk-in customer address on its contact page – the business is sold and serviced remotely, through the phone line, WhatsApp, the chat assistant and the client portal.
Because the brand changed name, older correspondence, debit order references and search results may still say Prime Meridian Direct or PMD. That is the same business – but confirm any unfamiliar contact detail against prime.co.za before acting on it, since a rebrand is exactly the situation impersonators exploit.
Support and escalation routes
Raise the matter with the care centre on 011 745 7800 or [email protected], and confirm it in writing so the date is recorded. Prime publishes a compliance contact at [email protected] – note that this sits on a different domain, which is expected for a compliance function.
If Prime does not resolve it:
- A declined or underpaid claim, or how the policy was administered: National Financial Ombud Scheme, 0860 800 900, [email protected]
- Advice, or a policy sold in a way that did not suit you: FAIS Ombud, 012 762 5000, [email protected]
- Repair workmanship after an accident: Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa, 010 590 8378
Ask Prime for its FSP number and the name of the licensed insurer underwriting your policy before escalating – an ombud acts against the named insurer.
