The claims line is the only 24-hour number. Santam gives its new policy quotation hours as Monday to Friday 07:00 to 19:00 and Saturday 08:00 to 18:00, and its existing client services as Monday to Friday 08:00 to 18:00 and Saturday 08:00 to 13:00, both closed on Sundays and on some public holidays.

How the claim runs

  1. Submit: use the Santam app or Client Portal, or phone the 24/7 claims line on 0860 505 911.
  2. Track: follow the claim’s progress in the app or portal rather than phoning for updates.
  3. Repair or replace: Santam says it works through a network of approved partners and suppliers.

The claim types set up for fast tracking are motor glass, vehicle (theft, accident and third-party claims), property (buildings and home contents, including geyser, flooding and structural damage) and all risk items such as jewellery and cellphones.

Tracking a claim and getting documents

Most of what people phone the claims line for can be done without waiting in a queue. Through the Santam app and the Client Portal you can manage your policies, submit and track a claim, view your latest policy documents and request services. Santam’s WhatsApp claims self-service runs on the same 0860 505 911 number, and the self-service line 0860 102 001 covers the rest. Compliments and complaints have their own number, 0860 102 725, and Santam also takes feedback through a form on its contact page.

Before you phone

  • Have the policy number and the date and time of the incident ready.
  • Get the SAPS case or AR number first where the claim involves theft or a collision; most of those claims cannot progress without it.
  • Take photographs before anything is repaired, moved or thrown away.
  • If you deal with a broker, they can lodge the claim for you, but the 0860 505 911 line is open around the clock when they are not.
