The contact form on mbdinc.co.za asks for your name, email address, telephone number and message, and is protected by a security check before it will send. If you are writing about an account, the email address info@mbdinc.co.za reaches the same office.

The two numbers appear in different places. The firm’s own contact page gives 011 560 6111, while the MBD digital collections portal shows +27 10 510 0250 behind a “Contact” link that displays the 011 number. If one does not get you through, try the other.

MBD Attorneys in Cape Town

MBD Inc. does not list a Cape Town office. Its website says operations are centralised at the Sandton head office, with one branch office in Umhlanga, Durban, and a network of accredited correspondent attorneys around the country. It says it can litigate in all magisterial districts in South Africa, so a matter against you can be heard in a Cape Town court even though the firm has no office there. Use the Sandton number and address above, whichever province you are in.

Check that a call from “MBD” is real

MBD is a debt collector, so its name gets used by scammers. Before you pay anyone:

• Phone MBD back yourself on 011 560 6111 and ask it to confirm the account and the amount.
• Check the account in the MBD self-service portal rather than paying into a number sent by SMS or email.
• MBD’s own site lists its Debt Collectors Act registration as DCA No. 0030960/08, and states that MBD is a trading division of Nutun Business Services South Africa (Pty) Ltd, owned by Nutun Limited.

Paying or disputing an MBD account

MBD’s “Manage my accounts” link goes to its digital collections portal. There you can pay, view an account, or log in to the self-service dashboard. The portal lets you:

• Make a once-off payment, or set up a payment arrangement.
• Apply for a discount by entering what you can afford.
• Log a query, choosing from: you are unemployed; you are the right person but cannot afford to repay; you are the right person but the debt is not yours; you have already paid; you want a copy of your statement; you want a copy of the contract; or the person being sought has died.
• Log a complaint or a compliment, update your details, or ask not to be contacted.
• View documents on paid-up and arrear accounts.

If the debt is not yours or you have already paid, use the “log a query” route and keep a copy of what you send.

What MBD Inc. does

MBD Inc. was established in 1997 and describes itself as a legal collections firm working across the credit lifecycle. Its clients are mainly in banking, retail and telecommunications. Its work covers pre-legal collections, litigation, debtor rehabilitation, property foreclosure, asset repossession, civil and commercial litigation, debt review and insolvency law. It says it covers the South and North Gauteng High Court Divisions and eleven magisterial jurisdictions directly.

Data and privacy requests

Requests for access to records, corrections or deletion of personal information must be made in writing on the forms attached to that manual. The manual, a POPI complaint form and a personal information request form are all published on mbdinc.co.za. MBD says access, once granted, must be given within 30 days.
