The MTN customer care number is 135 from an MTN phone and 083 135 from any other network or a landline. Contract (post-paid) customers dial 808. MTN’s customer service charter says calls to 135 and 808 are free from any MTN number, and these call centre numbers are also the way to speak to an MTN agent or consultant. The MTN WhatsApp number is 083 123 0011, MTN Fibre support is on 083 123 4273, and fraud can be reported on 083 135 4357 or to Fraudhelp@mtn.com. MTN’s head office is at 216 14th Avenue, Fairland, Roodepoort 2195, with a switchboard on 011 912 3000. MTN’s charter says calls to 135 and 808 are answered within 3 minutes and can be handled in several languages. The emergency number 112 works 24/7 across South Africa without airtime or even a SIM card, for medical emergencies, poison control, police or the fire department. *136# shows your airtime, SMS and data balances for free.

MTN call centre number: how to speak to an agent or consultant

MTN does not publish a separate “speak to a consultant” number or an IVR menu option. The MTN customer service numbers are the agent routes: dial 135 (pre-paid) or 808 (contract) from an MTN phone, or 083 135 from another network or a landline. MTN lists 135 and 808 as numbers to dial from an MTN phone, so use 083 135 if you are calling from anything else. Hearing-impaired customers can use other methods, such as a direct message.

Is there an MTN toll free number or a 24 hour helpline?

MTN’s Contact us page does not list an 0800 toll free number. The free routes are the short codes: the charter says calls to 135 and 808 are free from any MTN number. MTN lists 083 135 for callers on other networks and landlines and does not describe that number as free, so this page does not call it free.

The Contact us page also gives no operating hours for 135, 808 or 083 135, so this page does not state any. The two MTN channels that are described as always on are MTN Chat on WhatsApp, which runs all day, every day, and the emergency number 112, which works 24/7.

MTN WhatsApp number and live chat

MTN’s chat service runs on WhatsApp, all day, every day. Save 083 123 0011 to your contacts as MTN Chat and send “Hi”. It also works on WhatsApp Web on a laptop. MTN says 083 123 0011 is the only official MTN Chat number, so ignore any other number that claims to be MTN on WhatsApp.

MTN online: app and USSD self-service

For everyday account jobs you do not need an agent. MTN’s online routes are the MTN App, which the site footer links at mtn.co.za/home/app-download, MTN Chat on WhatsApp, and USSD codes dialled from your MTN phone. The codes MTN lists as most used include:

• *136#: check your airtime, SMS and data balances
• *136*2#: buy voice, SMS, data and promotional bundles
• *136*5#: manage your bundles and subscriptions, including stopping a data bundle purchase
• *126*7927#: SIM swap

MTN’s USSD codes page does not list a code that shows your own cellphone number, so we do not give one here.

MTN Fibre helpline number, WiFi and home internet

MTN Fibre is on 083 123 4273, the number MTN prints for fibre in its site footer and contact panel. MTN lists no separate WiFi or router number: other home internet queries (SIM and router products) go to 135 or 808.

Calling MTN from outside South Africa

MTN does not publish a separate international customer care line. The number it gives for callers on other networks is 083 135, which is +27 83 135 in international format. When you switch on international roaming, MTN sends the roaming terms by SMS and makes its call centre details available through a USSD string.

MTN head office contact number and address

MTN’s head office (HQ) is in Roodepoort. Its company details page gives the physical address as 216 14th Avenue, Fairland, Roodepoort 2195, with the head office switchboard on +27 11 912 3000 (011 912 3000). The Contact us page gives the same address as the Innovation Centre, 216 14th Avenue, Fairland, Johannesburg. The postal address is Private Bag 9955, Cresta, 2118.

The 011 912 3000 landline is a switchboard, not a customer care line: customer queries go to 135, 808 or 083 135. MTN does not list a Cape Town head office on its website. The company is registered as Mobile Telephone Networks (Pty) Ltd, Reg. No. 1993/001436/07, and is an authorised financial services provider, FSP licence 44774.

MTN legal department contact details

MTN does not publish a legal department number or email address. Its Contact us, Important numbers and company details pages give only the head office switchboard, +27 11 912 3000, the Roodepoort physical address and Private Bag 9955, Cresta 2118, and the company details page names the Company Secretary role. Use the switchboard or the postal address for legal or company correspondence.

MTN Business and sales contact

For MTN Business sales enquiries, MTN points to the contact form at mtn.co.za/business/contact-form. The MTN Business pages do not print a separate business customer care number; the business site’s footer repeats 135 and the fraud line 083 135 4357. MTN Chat on WhatsApp (083 123 0011) also serves business contracts for recharges, balances, PUK codes, SIM swaps, spend limits, invoices and statements, depending on the contract type.

MTN accounts and collections

MTN does not publish a separate accounts or collections department number. Contract account queries go to 808 (or 083 135 from another network) and to MTN Chat on WhatsApp. Personal-contract customers can use MTN Chat on 083 123 0011 to pay an overdue bill, change the debit order date, make a Promise to Pay and see invoices and statements.

Upgrades, cancellations and retentions

MTN does not publish separate upgrade, cancellation or retentions numbers. Contract customers use 808. The customer service charter says the rules for ending a contract early, and any early-termination costs, must be set out in your contract. MTN also has to tell you about deposits, connection and admin fees, in-bundle and out-of-bundle rates, and fair usage policies when you sign up.

MTN fraud line

To report fraud, such as a SIM swap or a contract you did not ask for, call MTN’s Report Fraud line on 083 135 4357 or email Fraudhelp@mtn.com. Both are listed in MTN’s own contact panel, and the fraud line is repeated in the footer of the MTN Business site.

MTN complaints department

Raise the issue through 135, 808, WhatsApp or social media first. MTN’s Contact us page says that if you have had no feedback, or 14 days have passed since you last heard from MTN, you should email its Complaints Management team at complaints@mtn.com. It is an escalation mailbox, not a first-contact or sales address. The charter says MTN acknowledges complaints within 48 hours with a reference number and aims to resolve them within 14 days. MTN says it has not subscribed to Hello Peter or other external consumer forums since 1 August 2020, and asks customers to use its official channels.

Pre-paid usage reports and accessibility

Pre-paid customers can ask MTN for an itemised usage report. The charter says MTN first confirms that you are the registered user of the SIM, then emails the report (or posts it on request) within 14 days, and may charge to recover its costs. Itemised records are kept for only 3 months, so ask promptly. Customers with a disability can contact MTN in other ways, for example by direct message on social media for hearing-impaired customers.

Mondo and MTN E-Centive contact numbers

Mondo is a separate online retailer that sells deals on several networks, including MTN. MTN’s own lines cannot service a Mondo order. Mondo Mobile’s number is 0861 238 888, and its office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

MTN E-Centive is a sales-incentive platform run by a third party, E-Centive (Pty) Ltd, at mtn.ecentive.co.za. Its support line is 010 592 1819 and its support email is help-mtn@ecentive.co.za, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00, closed on weekends and public holidays.

MTN stores: Canal Walk, Norwood, East Rand Mall

People often look for the numbers of individual MTN stores, such as those at Canal Walk, Norwood or East Rand Mall. MTN’s website did not publish a store directory with store numbers when we checked on 19 September 2026, and its old store-locator address now returns “page no longer exists”. We therefore do not list store numbers. For anything a store would handle, such as upgrades, SIM swaps or account questions, the published routes are 135 (or 808 for contracts), 083 135 from other networks, and WhatsApp on 083 123 0011.
