The 242 code is Harare, not Nyanga, which is normal for a group managed property where reservations sit at a central office. If you need something at the lodge itself rather than a booking, say so, because the reservations desk is several hours away from it.
The Eastern Highlands are not lowveld safari country
People book this region expecting Zimbabwe to be hot. Nyanga is the opposite, and packing for the wrong one spoils the trip.
- This is high, cool, mountain country. Nights get genuinely cold, and winter mornings can be near freezing. Bring warm clothing whatever the season.
- The draw is walking, waterfalls and trout streams, rather than big game viewing.
- Mist and rain are common and roads in the hills can be slow. Allow more driving time than the distance suggests.
- Ask whether rooms have heating, since not all highland lodges do.
Booking and paying
Zimbabwe is a separate country with its own law. The Consumer Protection Act does not apply, and neither the National Consumer Commission nor the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud has jurisdiction over a booking made there.
- Pay by card or through an agent, so a chargeback or dispute process stays open. An international transfer leaves you with neither.
- Confirm the billing currency and what the lodge accepts on site. Do not assume rands or cards will work everywhere.
- Get the cancellation schedule in writing before paying a deposit.
- A group managed booking should produce a written confirmation naming the property and the dates. Keep it.
