- Requirements change without notice and differ by passport, purpose and length of stay. Confirm on the official mission or government website on the day you apply.
- No agent can guarantee a visa. Decisions rest with the issuing country, and a refusal is recorded and can affect later applications.
- Many missions use an outsourced application centre for submission and biometrics. That is normal, but check which one is official.
- Never hand your passport to an unverified intermediary. Documents are held hostage for further payment.
Working abroad, and the job offer scam
A genuine employer does not charge you for a job, a visa or a flight, and does not ask you to pay a recruiter by EFT. Offers of hospitality, security or driving work in the Gulf, arriving unsolicited by WhatsApp, are a persistent scam aimed at South Africans.
Verify the employer independently, insist on a written contract before travelling, and keep your own passport in your possession at all times. Register your travel and leave your itinerary with someone at home.
