There is no separate fund called the Spoornet Pension Fund. Spoornet was the rail division of Transnet, and its retired employees sit in one of the Transnet pension funds. Pensioners who retired on or before 30 November 2000 were transferred into the Transnet Second Defined Benefit Fund, which is the fund reached on the numbers below.

What this organisation provides
The Transnet Second Defined Benefit Fund was established on 1 December 2000 under the Transnet Pension Fund Amendment Act, 1990 (Act 62 of 1990) as amended by the Transnet Pension Fund Amendment Act, 2000 (Act 41 of 2000). Every pensioner who had retired up to 30 November 2000 was transferred into it from the Transnet Pension Fund on that date, and it then closed to new members. It provides pension and death benefits to its pensioners and their dependants, and pays ad hoc bonuses and annual increases when the trustees and Transnet approve them.
Address and operating information
The fund office is at Belmont Office Park, Twist Street, Bellville, 7530, with post to PO Box 4300, Tyger Valley, 7536. It is a closed defined benefit fund and an independent legal entity managed by a Board of Trustees, and benefits are set by a fixed formula in the fund rules. Investment risk is carried by Transnet and ultimately by government rather than by pensioners. If you retired after 30 November 2000 you are not in this fund, so confirm with Transnet which fund administers your pension before calling.
Support and escalation routes
Take a benefit or payment query to the call centre first, and use the death claims mailbox rather than the general one when reporting a death, since those claims follow a separate process. If the fund does not resolve a complaint, note that it was established by its own Act of Parliament rather than registered under the Pension Funds Act, so confirm with the office of the Pension Funds Adjudicator whether it has jurisdiction over this fund before lodging there. Complaints can also be raised with the Board of Trustees, which holds the management and control of the fund.
