How to change your card PIN on the Standard Bank app
Standard Bank’s Managing your card page says new accounts and credit cards come with a five-digit PIN that you can change at any time. It describes two separate steps:
- View your PIN in the app: sign in, tap Manage at the bottom of the screen, select Cards, tap Card settings for the card, then scroll down and select View PIN. You can also view it through Cellphone Banking by dialling 0860 123 000, choosing option 2 (self-service) and option 2 again (ATM or card PIN retrieval), or at a branch.
- Change your PIN at an ATM: Standard Bank’s page says to change the PIN at your nearest Standard Bank ATM by inserting your card and following the on-screen instructions. It is free for Standard Bank cardholders.
Managing your Standard Bank card
- Credit limit increase: in the app, tap the Credit Card tile, then Apply on the Credit Limit Increase tile; Standard Bank says you can apply within 6 months of receiving the card, subject to a full credit check.
- Using your card abroad: activate it in the app (Use Your Card Abroad, then enter your travel dates) or call 0860 000 000. It is free, and qualifying credit cards give free basic travel insurance when you book flights with them.
- Switch transactions on or off: in Card Settings you can turn the card on or off and control ATM use, card machine payments, online purchases, Tap & Go, and wearables and wallets.
- Budget facility: purchases over R200 can be repaid over six to 60 months; interest accrues from the purchase date.
- Link a card to your banking profile: in the app, tap Link your accounts, choose South Africa, tap Bank accounts, and enter your card number and ATM PIN; or visit a branch with your ID.
Lost cards, fraud and complaints
If your card is lost or stolen, call 0800 020 600 (or +27 10 824 1514 from abroad). To report a new fraud incident, Standard Bank’s fraud line is 0800 222 050 (+27 10 824 2090 international). For unauthorised online purchases, Standard Bank suggests adding a Virtual Card to your account. Card complaints can be escalated on 0860 101 101 or to complaint.resolutioncentre@standardbank.co.za, and unethical behaviour by staff can be reported on 0800 204 547 or to whistleblowingline@tip-offs.com. Standard Bank’s contact page also offers a call-back form and a feedback form where you can choose whether to give your ID number.
