dotsure sells an extended car warranty covering mechanical and electrical breakdown, which is a different product from car insurance. The eligibility limits are the first thing to check, because the cover is capped by the age and mileage of the vehicle rather than by its value.

Official provider route

  • Telephone: 0861 368 7873, a vanity number spelling dotsure
  • Email: u2us@dotsure.co.za
  • Live chat and WhatsApp from dotsure.co.za/contact-us
  • Claims and policy management: portal.dotsure.co.za

Product or service support

The extended warranty covers repair or replacement of more than 60 mechanical and electrical components when they break or fail. dotsure states that claims are paid directly to you rather than to the mechanic or service centre, and that its average claims turnaround is three days once all the required documents are received. Cover includes CoverXtender at no extra cost, which lets you stretch the parts limit beyond your schedule once a year, and emergency roadside assistance with 24 hour towing to a place of safety plus up to R500 towards storage. Optional add-ons at extra premium are an alternative transport allowance of up to R5 000 while the car is being repaired, and ServiceXtender contributing up to R4 000 towards a service.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

Vehicles are covered up to 15 years old and up to 300 000 km, so check both before applying. Total component cover is up to R400 000, with published sub-limits per component: engine up to R45 000, gearbox up to R36 000, differential up to R35 000, turbo up to R24 000 and cambelt up to R20 000. A missed service does not automatically void the cover: dotsure allows a grace period of up to 30 days from policy inception to put a missed service right. Plans can be upgraded or downgraded at any time.

Escalation route

Lodge a claim through the portal or the number above and keep the repair quotation and service history, since a warranty claim turns on whether the part failed and whether the vehicle was serviced. The underwriters are Dotsure Limited, registration 2006/000723/06, FSP 39925, a licensed non-life insurer, and Dotsure Life Limited, registration 2012/066504/06, FSP 44793, for life products. A complaint about how a claim was handled goes to the insurer first and then to the National Financial Ombud on 0860 800 900. A complaint about the advice given when the policy was sold goes to the FAIS Ombud on 012 762 5000.
