IUA Abacus Contact Details

Abacus is the insurer, and the numbers below are the ones to use. IUA appears only as a login-only self-service portal that publishes no contact details of its own, and Abacus does not name it anywhere on its own contact page, so route anything about an Abacus policy through Abacus.

What this organisation provides

Abacus provides funeral, life and short-term insurance products sold through retail channels rather than through brokers, and its website carries a find a retailer tool for locating a Pep or Ackermans store that sells Abacus products. Because the cover is bought in a store, the policy document and the store receipt are often the only paperwork a customer holds, so keep both when claiming.

Address and operating information

Customer care and claims operate Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 17:00. Two separate licensed entities sit behind the products: Abacus Insurance Limited, registration 2007/035136/06, FSP 47063, is the licensed non-life insurer, and Abacus Life Limited, registration 2007/032597/06, FSP 47062, is the licensed life insurer. Which one carries your policy depends on the product, and the FSP number on your policy schedule tells you which.

Support and escalation routes

Use the claims mailbox to lodge a claim and the separate complaints mailbox if the outcome is disputed, since Abacus publishes them as different addresses. If Abacus does not resolve a complaint, a life policy complaint and a non-life policy complaint both go to the National Financial Ombud on 0860 800 900, and a complaint about the advice given when the policy was sold goes to the FAIS Ombud on 012 762 5000. The Financial Sector Conduct Authority is the licensing authority for both entities. If you were directed to a self-service portal at selfservice.iua.co.za, note that it requires a reference number and a one time password to enter and publishes no telephone number or address, so use the Abacus numbers above instead.
