NUPSAW is the National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers, a South African trade union organising in the public service and allied sectors. It runs a head office in Akasia north of Pretoria and a network of provincial and regional offices, and members are generally routed to the office covering their province rather than to head office.
Official contact channels
- Head office telephone: 012 342 1674
- General email: [email protected]
- General Secretary: [email protected]
- Head office: Success Mataitsane House, 17 Iris Street, Heatherdale AH, Akasia, 0182
- Postal: P.O. Box 58481, Karenpark, 0118
One thing to watch: the union publishes its general enquiry address on the nupsaw.org.za domain but its office mailboxes on nupsaw.co.za. Both are the union, but a message sent to the wrong domain variant of an office address will not arrive, so copy the address exactly as listed.
What this organisation provides
- Trade union representation and membership for public service and allied workers
- Representation at bargaining councils: the ELRC, GPSSBC, PHSDSBC, PSCBC and SSSBC
- Case handling and representation for members in workplace disputes
- A membership application form published on the union site
- Member benefits and published financials, congress and event material
The bargaining council list is the practical detail. Which council covers you decides where a dispute is heard, and it follows your employer sector rather than your job title. Education staff fall under the ELRC, health and social development under the PHSDSBC, and police and correctional services under the SSSBC.

Two Eastern Cape mailboxes look transposed on the union site: the Gqeberha office is listed with [email protected] and the East London office with [email protected]. Phone the office rather than guessing which way round it should be, and confirm the address with the person who answers.
The contacts page carries a date stamp of January 2022, so treat the smaller regional entries as needing a call to confirm before you travel. Head office is the reliable starting point if an office number does not answer.
Support and escalation routes
- Start with the provincial office for your province; head office on 012 342 1674 if it does not answer
- Membership and case questions go through your office, not to head office directly
- A dispute the union takes up is heard at the relevant bargaining council, or at the CCMA where no council has jurisdiction
- NUPSAW is affiliated to SAFTU and to Public Services International
- Complaints about the union itself as an organisation fall to the Registrar of Labour Relations at the Department of Employment and Labour
Keep union representation and statutory rights separate in your own mind. The union can represent you, but the underlying deadlines are set by the Labour Relations Act, and a referral clock keeps running whether or not your union office has come back to you.
