Knysna Traffic Fines Contact Details

Knysna Municipality takes traffic fine payments three ways, and it has a dedicated account used only for traffic payments. It also accepts a formal written representation if you want to contest a fine rather than pay it.

How to pay

• EFT. Knysna Municipality is loaded as a predefined beneficiary on the bank directory, listed as Knysna Municipality Traffic, which the municipality says is used only for traffic payments. Select that beneficiary in your banking app rather than typing account details by hand
• EasyPay, at any EasyPay point
• In person at the Customer Care Centre in Clyde Street. Cashiers are open Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00
• Use the traffic fine number as the payment reference. Without it the payment may not be matched to the fine

Selecting the predefined beneficiary is safer than entering account details from any third party, including this page. Fine-payment fraud works by circulating a plausible-looking account number, so take banking details only from the municipality itself or from your bank beneficiary list.

Contesting a fine instead of paying

• Knysna Municipality accepts an official representation against a fine. The form is published on the municipal pay a traffic fine page
• Complete the form and email it to traffic@knysna.gov.za
• Do this before paying. Paying a traffic fine is treated as an admission of guilt and cannot be reversed afterwards
• Keep a copy of the form, the fine number and the date you sent it

Before you pay

• Check that the fine is actually a Knysna Municipality fine. Fines issued on national roads by the provincial traffic service are paid elsewhere, and paying the wrong authority does not clear the fine
• Check the notice type. A section 341 notice, a section 56 summons and an AARTO infringement are handled differently, and a summons carries a court date you cannot ignore
• Confirm the amount and the due date on the notice rather than from memory, since discounted early-payment amounts lapse
