Mutual & Federal no longer exists under that name. The short-term insurer trades as Old Mutual Insure, and the old mutualandfederal.co.za address no longer resolves at all — there is no site left there to redirect you. The contact details below are Old Mutual Insure’s, published on Old Mutual’s own site.

Old Mutual Insure contact details

The claims number and the emergency assistance number are deliberately similar and are not the same line. Use 0860 24 7 365 to register or follow up a claim; use 0800 24 7 365 when you need a tow truck, a locksmith or an emergency plumber at the scene.

Email addresses by type of query

The split between inland and coastal quote mailboxes applies only to new commercial business. Once a policy is on the books, every region goes to existingbusiness@ominsure.co.za regardless of where the risk sits.

Complaints, compliments and fraud

  • Compliments: 0860 63 43 57 or compliments@ominsure.co.za.
  • Complaints: log through the complaints page on the Old Mutual Insure site, which routes to the Complaints Management team; that team is also the step before an external referral.
  • Fraud and financial crime: Tip-offs Anonymous on the toll-free line 0800 006 930, fax 0800 007 788, or ominsure@tip-offs.co.za. You may stay anonymous. The South African Insurance Crime Bureau also takes reports on 0860 00 25 26.

What changed, and what did not

Mutual & Federal was one of South Africa’s oldest short-term insurers and was brought fully into the Old Mutual group before being rebranded. The business is the same insurer: it still writes personal, commercial and agricultural short-term cover, and the Old Mutual group lists it as operating through the Old Mutual network in Namibia, Nigeria, Botswana and Zimbabwe as well. If you are holding an old Mutual & Federal policy document, the policy number on it is still the reference to quote — call 0860 22 55 63 and give it as-is rather than assuming it has lapsed.

If your policy was moved elsewhere

Not every Mutual & Federal book ended up at Old Mutual Insure. If the number above tells you they have no record of your policy, ask which administrator it was transferred to and get that in writing before you pay another premium. Never act on a phone call or email that asks you to change the bank account you pay premiums into; confirm any banking change by calling 0860 22 55 63 yourself, using the number published on the insurer’s own site rather than one supplied in the message.
