Capitec Personal Loan Contact Details
Capitec runs separate numbers for taking out credit and for struggling to repay it. Most people only know the general banking line, which is the slowest route to either.
Applying for a personal loan, or a query on one
- Call: 0860 66 77 89
That is Capitec’s published number for applying for personal banking credit or asking about an existing agreement. It is not the general banking line and it is not the branch.
If you are battling to make the repayments
This is the part worth knowing before you fall behind, and Capitec publishes three ways in:
- WhatsApp 072 822 1582
- SMS your South African ID number or foreign passport number to 30679 and they call you back
- Or call 0860 66 77 18 directly
The SMS route costs one message and needs no airtime for a long call. Use it before you miss a payment rather than after. A repayment arrangement made in advance is an ordinary bank process; a missed instalment is a default that goes onto your credit record and is far harder to undo.
General banking numbers
- Client Care Centre, 24 hours: 0860 10 20 43
- WhatsApp, 06:00 to 22:00: 067 418 9565
- From outside South Africa: +27 21 440 3580
- Email: ClientCare@capitecbank.co.za
The registration numbers to check
Capitec Bank Limited is registration 1980/003695/06, an authorised financial services provider under FSP 46669 and a registered credit provider under NCRCP13. That last one matters: a lender offering you a personal loan in South Africa must be registered with the National Credit Regulator, and a real NCRCP number is checkable on the NCR’s own register.
Before you sign for a loan
- You are entitled to a pre-agreement statement and quotation setting out the interest rate, the initiation fee, the monthly service fee and the total you will repay. Read the total, not the instalment.
- Credit life insurance is often included. Ask what it costs and whether you already have cover that does the same job.
- A lender must do an affordability assessment. If nobody asked what you earn and what you owe, something is wrong.
- You may settle early, and the settlement figure must be quoted to you on request.
Nobody legitimate charges you to get a loan
The most common loan fraud in South Africa asks for an upfront “administration”, “insurance” or “clearance” fee before the money is released. No registered credit provider takes a payment from you in order to advance a loan — the fees are deducted from the loan or added to it, never paid in advance. A message offering a Capitec loan and asking for a deposit is not from Capitec. Phone 0860 10 20 43 yourself and check.
If something goes wrong
- Complain to Capitec first and get the reference. It publishes a complaints route on its site.
- A dispute about a credit agreement, reckless lending or a listing on your credit record goes to the National Credit Regulator, and to the National Financial Ombud Scheme for banking complaints.
- If you are over-indebted across several lenders, a registered debt counsellor is the statutory route, and it is applied for through the NCR rather than bought from a call centre.
