FNB Debt Review Contact Details

You do not apply to FNB for debt review. Debt review is a legal process under the National Credit Act, run by a registered debt counsellor, and FNB is one of the credit providers on the receiving end of it. FNB’s own debt review guide sets out what happens to your FNB accounts once the process starts, and that is the part most people need to know. Read from FNB’s consumer banking debt review guide, published on fnb.co.za, on 13 September 2026.

Who to contact

  • To start debt review: a debt counsellor registered with the National Credit Regulator
  • To check a debt counsellor is registered, or to complain about one: the National Credit Regulator, 0860 627 627 or 011 554 2700, complaints@ncr.org.za
  • For your repayment amount under debt review: your debt counsellor, not FNB

FNB’s web pages were behind a bot-verification check when this page was written, so no FNB debt review desk number is given here rather than one taken from a third party.

What FNB does to your accounts

  • Credit cards and overdrafts are closed to further use, and what you owe on them is moved to a loan account
  • FNB has 10 business days after a re-arrangement agreement or court order to restructure the affected accounts
  • An account on which legal action has already been taken may not be included in the debt review
  • You cannot take on new credit until you have exited debt review

Termination: the risk to understand

If you default on the new repayment plan, or on your contractual payments before an agreement or order is in place, a credit provider can terminate that account from the debt review. You stay under debt review, but FNB can then take legal action to collect that one account. Keeping every payment up to date through the payment distribution agent is what prevents it.

Getting out of debt review

FNB’s guide says the application should take a maximum of 10 days, but debt review itself lasts until the debts are repaid. You exit either by being found not over-indebted, or by repaying everything in full, with only an up-to-date home loan left. Ask your debt counsellor for copies of every proposal acceptance and the court order, and keep them.
