Discovery publishes no separate call centre for KeyCare. People who want to join a KeyCare plan call 0860 000 628, the number on Discovery’s KeyCare quote page, and existing KeyCare members use the Discovery Health Medical Scheme line, 0860 99 88 77. Discovery publishes no KeyCare email address, and the 2026 KeyCare guide lists no separate KeyCare phone line. KeyCare’s hospital networks and medicine list differ from other Discovery plans, so have your plan name and membership number ready when you call.
What this organisation provides
KeyCare, which Discovery markets as affordable medical aid cover, is a plan series of Discovery Health Medical Scheme, a registered medical scheme administered by Discovery Health (Pty) Ltd. It has four options: KeyCare Plus, KeyCare Core, KeyCare Start and KeyCare Start Regional. All of them give unlimited hospital cover inside the KeyCare hospital networks, maternity cover and cover for chronic medicine on the KeyCare medicine list for the Chronic Disease List conditions when you use the designated provider.
- KeyCare Plus: unlimited network hospital cover and day-to-day care through your chosen KeyCare GP; chronic medicine from a network pharmacy or that GP.
- KeyCare Core: hospital and chronic cover without the GP day-to-day benefit; chronic medicine from a network pharmacy.
- KeyCare Start: cover in your chosen KeyCare Start network hospital, with chronic medicine and cancer treatment in state facilities.
- KeyCare Start Regional: cover in a network hospital in your selected region, with healthcare services and referrals accessed through the KeyCare Online Practice.
KeyCare contributions are set by income band. Discovery’s KeyCare income page says it confirms members’ income yearly, and the 2026 guide says income verification is carried out for the lower income bands, so keep your payslip or proof of income to hand. In hospital, specialists who have a payment arrangement with Discovery are covered in full, and the KeyCare Series page shows a yearly rand limit per person for specialist visits on a GP referral on some options. Limits change each year, so read the current KeyCare guide before relying on a figure.

The KeyCare guide also says you must contact Discovery before a planned hospital admission, or the stay may not be covered.

- Use the online complaints form on discovery.co.za, and if that fails, the Principal Officer form or principalofficer@discovery.co.za. A final decision can be challenged through the scheme’s formal dispute process.
