To speak to an Absa consultant about a personal loan, call 0860 100 372; to apply over the phone, Absa’s Personal Loan page gives 0860 100 321. Existing customers can also apply in the Absa Banking App or on Absa Online, and Absa says an app application for up to R350 000 can pay out immediately into an Absa transactional account. We took these details from the Personal Loan, Express Loan, Instant Loan and Switch and Save pages on absa.co.za on 16 September 2026.

Please note that ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory, not Absa, so we cannot tell you whether you qualify or check where an application stands.

Two items on the Switch and Save page should not be used. Its footer lists “0860 000 000, option 5”, which is a placeholder, and its switching email address contains a hidden character, so a copied or clicked address may not work. Use 0860 100 372, which the same page gives in its how-to-switch steps.

Absa does not publish opening hours for 0860 100 372 or 0860 100 321. Absa Bank Limited (registration 1986/004794/06) is a registered credit provider, NCRCP7, with its head office at Absa Towers West, 15 Troye Street, Johannesburg.

The Instant Loan is available at any time at an Absa ATM, on Cellphone Banking or on Absa Online, while people new to Absa must apply for an Express Loan at a branch or through the call centre. Existing customers may already have a provisional loan offer, which Absa says they can check online.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

Personal Loan interest is personalised, starting at 13.75% a year. Absa’s own worked example is R50 000 over 36 months at 18%, costing about R2 113 a month including service and initiation fees. Credit life cover is compulsory on every personal loan through the Absa Credit Protection Plan, which pays out on death, disability, critical or terminal illness and loss of income. On an Express Loan, Absa lets you replace its credit protection with your own existing policy if it stays in force for the whole loan.

For a Personal Loan, bring your ID book or card and three months of payslips or bank statements. If you do not bank with Absa, add proof of residence not older than three months. Self-employed applicants need an ITA34 tax certificate, six months of financial statements and a letter from their accountant or bookkeeper, and pensioners a pension or retirement annuity statement. The Instant Loan needs no documents but is only for customers whose salary is paid into Absa.

Escalation route

  1. Take questions about your loan to a consultant on 0860 100 372, the number Absa lists for personal loans, and note the reference.
  2. If you are falling behind, Absa’s debt management page asks you to contact 0861 22 22 72 to negotiate a more affordable plan.
  3. Unresolved complaints go to Absa’s Complaint Resolution Suite on 0800 41 41 41 or actionline@absa.co.za, on weekdays.
  4. Once Absa has had its chance, the National Financial Ombud Scheme considers personal loan and credit disputes at no cost on 0860 800 900 or info@nfosa.co.za.
