Absa Personal Loan Relief Contact Details
Absa does not sell anything called personal loan relief. If you are struggling to repay an Absa personal loan, there are two official routes. To ask for a more affordable repayment plan, call the number on Absa’s Manage my debt page, 0861 22 22 72. If the trouble comes from losing your income, disability or serious illness, claim on the Credit Protection Plan that comes with every Absa personal loan, through Absa Life on 0860 227 253. We read Absa’s Manage my debt, Credit Protection, Personal Loan and claim guide pages on absa.co.za on 16 September 2026.
Please note that ContactDetails.co.za is an independent website, separate from Absa and Absa Life. Nobody here can change your instalment, assess a claim or negotiate with the bank on your behalf.
Official provider route
| What it is for | Contact |
|---|---|
| Negotiating a smaller or rearranged loan repayment | 0861 22 22 72 (Manage my debt page), or a branch |
| Credit Protection Plan claims and queries, Absa Life | 0860 227 253, weekdays 08:00 to 16:30 |
| Sending a loss of income or retrenchment claim | creditlifeclaims@absa.co.za, or Claim in the Insurance hub of the Absa Banking App or Absa Online |
| Sending a disability or critical illness claim | lifeclaims@absa.co.za |
| Questions about the loan account itself | 0860 100 372 (personal loan consultants) |

Absa’s Talk to us directory lists “Manage my debt” as 0860 000 786, the same number it gives for Islamic Banking. The Manage my debt page itself ends with “Call us on 0861 22 22 72”, which is why we lead with that number. Absa does not publish a mailbox or opening hours for the Manage my debt line.
Product or service support
The Credit Protection Plan is Absa’s credit life insurance, underwritten by Absa Life Limited. Absa’s personal loan page says this cover is mandatory on every personal loan. If you are temporarily disabled or cannot earn an income, the plan pays your monthly instalment for a limited time. After death, permanent disability, critical illness or terminal illness, it pays off the outstanding balance. On an Absa Revolving Loan, the temporary benefit is a monthly payment of 5% of the average outstanding balance on the facility instead.
Absa’s product table shows two plan options, and only Plan A includes the loss of income benefit. Plan B covers death, disability and illness but not loss of income. Check which plan your loan agreement names before you claim for a retrenchment.
Where insurance does not apply, the Manage my debt page advises people to contact their credit providers and try to agree a new, more affordable repayment plan, once budgeting is no longer enough. It publishes no fixed relief package, payment holiday or arrears rules for personal loans, so any new arrangement is agreed case by case.
Eligibility, account or policy requirements
For a loss of income claim, Absa’s claim guide asks for the completed Claim Form (Absa 2758 EX). The documents depend on how you were employed:
- Permanent staff: a certified ID copy, a retrenchment letter on the employer’s letterhead signed by the HR manager or a senior line manager with their contact details, a certificate of service and the UI19 or UIF certificate.
- Contract workers: the same set, plus the employment contract.
- Self-employed people: a certified ID copy, six months of business bank statements from before the income stopped and statements from after it, an ITA34 from SARS, proof that the business is registered and a letter from the accountant.
If your salary or personal income went into a bank other than Absa, also send statements for the three months before the income stopped and for at least 30 days after. The assessor can ask for more. Disability and critical illness claims use forms Absa 7341 EX and 7340 EX, with certified medical reports.
If you cannot reach a workable plan with Absa, Absa says the next step is an NCR-registered debt counsellor, approached before legal action begins. A loan where a Section 130 summons has already been issued cannot be included. You need some disposable income to make an offer, and spouses married in community of property must apply together.
Escalation route
- Keep the claim or arrangement reference that Absa Life or the Manage my debt team gives you, and ask for any agreement in writing.
- If a claim is declined or a plan is refused and you disagree, complain to Absa’s Complaint Resolution Suite on 0800 41 41 41 or actionline@absa.co.za, weekdays 08:00 to 16:30.
- Where Absa’s response leaves the dispute open, the National Financial Ombud Scheme deals with both credit and life insurance complaints, free, on 0860 800 900 or info@nfosa.co.za.
