For Absa vehicle finance payment relief or help when you are struggling to meet an instalment, use the debt assistance number 0861 222 272. For vehicle finance statements and documents, use 0860 669 669 or vehiclefinance@absa.co.za. If the problem follows retrenchment or loss of income and your agreement carries Absa credit protection, a claim may cover instalments for a limited time.

There are two cautions around numbers shown on Absa pages. On several Absa vehicle finance pages the number displayed is 0860 669 669, but the tap-to-call link dials 0861 666 488, Absa’s warranty claims line, so key 0860 669 669 in by hand. Absa’s debt-free journey page also prints 0860 222 272 once under collections. This page lists 0861 222 272 because that same page gives it twice and it matches Absa’s home loan and manage my debt pages.

Absa vehicle finance payment relief

For Absa vehicle finance payment relief, the first contact route shown by Absa for an instalment you cannot meet is debt assistance on 0861 222 272. Absa Vehicle and Asset Finance finances cars on instalment sale agreements, and its collections guidance describes four possible routes for customers who are struggling to pay.

  • A short-term arrangement.
  • A restructure of the loan.
  • Selling the car through HelpUSell.
  • Voluntary surrender.

Absa warns that the car is security for the loan, so voluntary surrender does not automatically clear the debt. If the vehicle is sold for less than the amount still owed, you remain responsible for the shortfall.

If selling the financed car is the route you need, FASTBuy HelpUSell Support is on 0860 789 555 and FASTBuyHUS@absa.africa. If you contact debt assistance about an arrangement, the existing guidance on this page is to call before the debit order bounces and ask for any arrangement to be confirmed in writing with the new amount and end date.

Absa relief plan contact number and payment relief insurance

What searchers often call Absa vehicle payment relief insurance is Absa Life’s Credit Protection Plan. For questions about credit protection on vehicle finance, use 0860 669 669 or Vehicle.creditprotect@absa.co.za. For Absa Life claims and queries, the number is 0860 227 253, weekdays 08:00 to 16:30.

For Vehicle and Asset Finance, the Credit Protection Plan comes as Plans A to E. Plans D and E include loss of income, while Plans B, C and D include temporary disability. On those benefits, the plan pays the monthly instalment for a limited time. Death, permanent disability and terminal illness settle the outstanding balance, and Plans C and D also include critical illness. Absa says your own policy terms override this summary.

If retrenchment or loss of income is the reason for the claim, use creditlifeclaims@absa.co.za, or log the claim in the Absa Banking App or Absa Online. If you are permanently employed, Absa Life asks for claim form Absa 2758 EX, a certified ID copy, a signed retrenchment letter on the employer’s letterhead, a certificate of service and a UI19 or UIF certificate. If your salary went into a non-Absa account, it also asks for bank statements around the termination date. Contract workers and the self-employed have separate lists on Absa’s claims page.

Absa vehicle statement online and account documents

For a vehicle finance statement itself, phone 0860 669 669. Vehicle finance account, statement and document queries can also be sent to vehiclefinance@absa.co.za. Absa’s vehicle finance pages do not describe a separate statement-request process.

The Documents menu on the vehicle finance account in Absa Online or the Absa Banking App holds the contract copy, settlement quote, paid-up letter, eNaTIS document and cross-border letter. A contract copy is emailed within three to five business days, and Absa says not to make a repeat request for five business days.

Absa eStatements arrive as password-protected PDFs and are set up through Absa Online, Cellphone Banking or a branch. If the car loan is your only Absa product, you can still register for Absa Online with your cellphone number, Vehicle Finance Account number and ID number. No operating hours are given for 0860 669 669 or 0861 222 272 on the vehicle finance pages.

Adjusting an Absa vehicle finance instalment with an advance payment

If you have a lump sum available, Absa’s loan adjustment feature can be used to lower the instalment or the balloon. The process described by Absa starts with an advance of at least one instalment. You then choose Adjust my vehicle finance under Advance in Absa Online or the Banking App. Absa says a confirmation letter follows within three days.

Absa vehicle finance complaints and unresolved problems

If a payment-relief, vehicle-finance or insurance issue remains unresolved after using the relevant contact route, the existing escalation contacts on this page are:

  • Call debt assistance on 0861 222 272 before the debit order bounces, and ask for any arrangement to be confirmed in writing with the new amount and end date.
  • If lost income is the cause, lodge the credit protection claim with Absa Life as well, quoting your vehicle finance account number.
  • Take an unresolved problem to Absa’s Complaint Resolution Suite on 0800 41 41 41 (weekdays 08:00 to 16:30) or actionline@absa.co.za.
  • If Absa’s answer does not settle it, the National Financial Ombud Scheme considers credit and insurance disputes on 0860 800 900 or info@nfosa.co.za.
