Absa does not publish anything called a card division. Card matters are handled by four different desks, and in an urgent situation the wrong one costs time.

Task scope

This covers a lost or stolen card, suspected card fraud, and ordinary queries on a credit card account.

Route

Requirements

Blocking a card and reporting fraud are two separate calls on two separate numbers. Blocking stops further use; the fraud hotline opens an investigation into transactions already made. If money has already left the account, both are needed, and both lines run 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Steps

For an ordinary account query the number depends on which card you hold, because Absa runs its card desks by product rather than centrally. General banking enquiries go to 0860 008 600 or [email protected]. Fraud can also be reported through the Absa mobile app by tapping the telephone icon, or by requesting a call back in the app.

Escalation

A complaint that is not resolved goes to the Complaint Resolution Suite on 0800 41 41 41 or [email protected], which is open weekdays from 08:00 to 16:30 only, and then to the National Financial Ombud on 0860 800 900. Where the dispute concerns the credit agreement rather than the service, the National Credit Regulator is on 0860 627 627, and Absa is registered with it as a credit provider under NCRCP7.
