IUA Abacus Contact Details
IUA and Abacus are two different companies, and which one you need depends on what your policy document says. IUA Business Solutions is an administrator, on 031 570 7600. Abacus is an insurer, on 0800 777 444. We read both websites on 24 September 2026.

IUA sorts claims by type
IUA publishes a separate mailbox for each kind of claim, which is the fastest way to reach the right desk.
- Policy administration and general enquiries: admin@iua.co.za.
- Warranty claims: warranty@iua.co.za.
- Short-term claims: stclaims@iua.co.za.
- Tyre claims: tyreclaims@iua.co.za.
- Scratch and dent claims: scratchanddent@iua.co.za.
- Life claims: lifeclaims@iua.co.za.
- Funeral claims: funeralclaims@iua.co.za.
The spread of those mailboxes tells you what IUA administers: motor-related cover such as warranty, tyre and scratch and dent, alongside short-term, life and funeral business.
Include your policy number or identity number in any email. IUA asks for it specifically.
Which company does your policy name?
This is the question to settle before you call either of them.
IUA describes itself as a business process outsourcing provider that has been appointed by your service provider to administer your contract or policy. It is the administrator, not the insurer, and it acts as the link between you and whoever underwrote the cover.
Abacus is the insurer. Two licensed entities sit behind its products: Abacus Insurance Limited, registration 2007/035136/06, FSP 47063, for non-life cover, and Abacus Life Limited, registration 2007/032597/06, FSP 47062, for life cover.
Neither company names the other on its public website. We checked both. So do not assume a link between them: read the administrator’s name on your own policy schedule and contact whoever is named there.
IUA Business Solutions (Pty) Ltd is registration number 1981/006334/07 and an authorised financial services provider, FSP 15737.
Use the self-service portal first
IUA runs a customer self-service portal at selfservice.iua.co.za, and it does more than most.
It lets you view contract or policy details, download documentation, register a claim, track the status of a claim, upload documents, check the status of a query, and get IUA’s contact details.
Registering and tracking a claim there avoids the call entirely, and uploading documents through the portal gives you a record that they arrived.
Note that the IUA home page splits visitors in two: policyholders with a policy or claim query go to self-service, while the main website is aimed at businesses looking to partner with IUA. If you are a customer, take the self-service route rather than the partnership form.
Complaints have a stated turnaround
IUA publishes complaints@iua.co.za and says a dedicated Complaints Resolution Administrator will investigate and try to resolve the complaint within five working days. It asks you to include your policy number or identity number, and publishes its complaints process separately.
Compliments go to a different address, compliments@iua.co.za.
Abacus keeps its own complaints mailbox, complaints@abacus-insurance.co.za, alongside customercare@abacus-insurance.co.za. Its contact form asks you to pick between general enquiries, complaints, compliments and claims, and has a field for your policy number.
Where Abacus cover is bought
Abacus sells funeral, life and short-term products through retail channels rather than brokers, and runs a Where to Buy tool on its site.
Because the cover is bought in a shop, the policy document and the till slip are often the only paperwork a customer holds. Keep both. They are what you will need when claiming.
Abacus is at Block 11A, Woodlands Office Park, 20 Woodlands Drive, Woodmead, Johannesburg, 2191.
Before you get in touch
Find your policy schedule and read off two things: the insurer’s name and the administrator’s name. They are frequently different companies.
Have your policy number and identity number ready, since both companies ask for them.
For IUA, pick the mailbox that matches your claim type rather than sending everything to the general address.
Both operate Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00, with no published weekend hours.
