TUT Registration Contact Details

Registration at TUT is not the same step as application, and the two are handled differently. You apply once and are either accepted or not; you then register every year, online, before teaching starts. Missing a registration window costs the year even when the application was successful.

TUT publishes no separate registration telephone line. The two numbers above are the university’s general enquiry lines and they are what the institution itself gives out for everything.

What you need before you can register

• A confirmed offer, and your status checked on the Check Your Status page rather than assumed.
• The minimum initial payment settled. TUT publishes student fees separately from registration, and registration will not open with an outstanding balance from the previous year.
• Your student number and portal credentials. The Student Portal, myTUTor and the online registration system are separate logins.

Returning students also need to be academically eligible to proceed. Where a student has not met the progression requirements, re-admission is a separate process with its own page on tut.ac.za, and it has to be resolved before registration will open.

Funding and registration are separate queues

NSFAS funding is administered by NSFAS, not by TUT, and a funding decision that has not come through does not stop the registration deadline from passing. Student Finance and Financial Aid have their own pages on tut.ac.za. If funding is unresolved as the window closes, phone 086 110 2421 and ask specifically what the university requires to hold the registration open, rather than waiting for NSFAS.

The registration scam

TUT publishes a standing warning that is worth repeating in full: academic and accommodation spaces are not for sale. Application and registration scams reach students through social media, fake emails and fake websites, usually promising to secure a place or a residence room for a fee. Trust only tut.ac.za, TUT’s official social media pages and official TUT email addresses.
