Post Office customer services are on 0860 111 502, with head office on 012 407 7000. Confirm that the Alberton branch is trading and what it still does before you go, because the South African Post Office closed 366 branches during business rescue and cut services at others.
ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory. We are not the Post Office and we cannot trace a parcel or reopen a branch.
Verified national contact routes
Read on the South African Government contact directory on 24 August 2026. The Post Office’s own website was not reachable when we checked, so the online branch locator may not work for you either.

Ask what the branch still does, not just whether it is open
Services vary from branch to branch, and a counter that is open may no longer handle what you came for. These are the ones people are most often turned away for.
- Motor vehicle licence renewals are handled at some post offices and not others, and in Gauteng there are separate licensing routes. Confirm before queueing.
- Registered and insured mail is not the same as an ordinary parcel, and the counter service and proof you receive differ.
- Post box rental and renewal is branch specific. If yours lapses, ask what happens to mail already addressed to it.
- International parcels involve customs, and duties are payable before release. That is a customs charge, not a Post Office fee, and it cannot be waived at the counter.
- Take identification for anything involving collection, a post box or a registered item.
Parcels that do not arrive
Work in this order, because starting in the wrong place wastes weeks.
- Get the tracking number from the sender. Without it nothing can be traced, and the sender, not the recipient, holds the contract for the delivery.
- Phone customer services on 0860 111 502 with the tracking number and the date of posting.
- Put a complaint in writing to [email protected] and keep the reference. Verbal complaints leave no trail.
- If an item was bought online, tell the retailer too. Under the Consumer Protection Act the seller is responsible for delivering what you paid for, and a card chargeback may be available if it never arrives.

Frequently asked questions
Is Alberton Post Office open?
We cannot confirm it. Phone 0860 111 502 and ask about the branch and its hours before travelling.
Can I renew my vehicle licence there?
Some branches do this and some do not. Confirm by phone rather than queueing to find out.
My parcel has not arrived. What do I do?
Get the tracking number from the sender, phone 0860 111 502, then complain in writing and keep the reference. Tell the online retailer as well.
Why am I being charged to collect an international parcel?
That is customs duty and VAT, payable before release. It is not a Post Office fee and counter staff cannot waive it.
National routes were read on the South African Government contact directory on 24 August 2026. The Post Office is the authority on branch services.
