The enrolment call centre on 0861 12 34 34 is for GEHS employee enrolment support, including enrolment problems and password resets. Use gehs@dpsa.gov.za for general scheme queries. Housing allowance applications and payments are handled by the Human Resource division of your own department rather than by the enrolment call centre.

The DPSA says the enrolment site is www.gehsenrolment.org and not www.gehs.gov.za. On 16 September 2026 the gehs.gov.za address did not load at all. On 25 September 2026 the www.gehs.gov.za address again did not resolve while www.gehsenrolment.org loaded, so the DPSA pages and www.gehsenrolment.org are the routes listed here for GEHS information and enrolment.

Neither the DPSA nor SA Home Loans publishes a GEHS WhatsApp number or a customer service line other than those above. The DPSA GEHS pages also list no provincial GEHS offices. For GEHS contact details in Gauteng or another province, use 0861 12 34 34, gehs@dpsa.gov.za and your department’s HR division for allowance paperwork.

GEHS login and employee portal

The GEHS login is at www.gehsenrolment.org. Sign in using your Persal number or ID number and your password. The DPSA identifies www.gehsenrolment.org as the enrolment portal rather than www.gehs.gov.za.

The DPSA GEHS pages list no GEHS mobile app. The employee login and enrolment service described by the DPSA is a website. When you first register, your first password is sent to your cell phone. On your first login you must choose a new personal password.

GEHS forgot password and login support

For a forgotten GEHS password, call the enrolment call centre on 0861 12 34 34. The GEHS login page has no self-service “forgot password” link, so password resets are done by call centre agents.

The agent verifies your identity using your ID, your name and the answers to the security questions you set when you registered. Have those security question answers ready when you call. The call centre can also update the cell phone number on your profile.

GEHS registration and online enrolment

GEHS registration is done online at www.gehsenrolment.org. The registration process uses your Persal number, RSA ID or passport number, names, cell phone number and email address. A password is then sent to your cell phone so you can log in.

A DPSA circular says employees can also enrol by calling the Enrolment Call Centre on 0861 12 34 34. Another route is for your HR unit to email a list of employees’ cell numbers to gehs@dpsa.gov.za so that a call centre agent phones each employee to enrol them.

GEHS application form and registration confirmation

The DPSA Reference Documents page does not publish a paper GEHS enrolment application form. Enrolment is completed through www.gehsenrolment.org, through the enrolment call centre on 0861 12 34 34, or through the HR-assisted process described above.

At the end of online enrolment, the portal displays a “Download Confirmation” button. Save or print the confirmation because the portal says HR will need it as proof that you have successfully enrolled with GEHS.

GEHS application status and housing allowance process

The page’s published GEHS routes separate employee enrolment from housing allowance administration. Every employee must enrol first to use any GEHS service, including the housing allowance. Your own department’s HR division handles the housing allowance and its paperwork.

According to the enrolment FAQs, all public service employees in national and provincial departments qualify, enrolment is free, homeowners must also enrol, and employees on communal land with valid permission to occupy enrol in the same way.

Homeowners who submit proof of ownership, which may be a title deed or permission to occupy certificate, receive the allowance directly. For employees who do not own a home, some or all of the housing allowance is saved in the Individual Linked Savings Facility until they buy. Where both spouses work in the public service, only one of them receives the allowance.

The DPSA page still quotes the July 2015 amount of R1 200 a month and says it is adjusted for inflation each July, so ask your HR division for the current figure.

Government Employees Housing Scheme services

The Government Employees Housing Scheme is an employee benefit scheme that gives government employees housing support. It covers staff in national and provincial departments and related public institutions, and the state runs it alongside the Government Employees Pension Fund and the Government Employees Medical Scheme.

GEHS services cover the housing allowance, employee enrolment, education and advice, access to affordable housing finance, rental housing support and the delivery of houses. Employees must enrol before using GEHS services.

GEHS savings balance, withdrawal and claims

Housing allowance money saved for employees who do not own a home is held in the Individual Linked Savings Facility (ILSF), which is administered by the GEHS Office. The savings earn interest, the monthly deposits show on your salary advice or payslip, and tax is deferred until withdrawal under a SARS directive.

The DPSA publishes no online balance check tool, so the deposits are shown on your payslip. According to a DPSA circular of 21 September 2016, the full ILSF savings can be withdrawn only when you become a homeowner, die, or retire or are medically boarded. Full withdrawal can also occur when a contract expires and is not renewed, after a 3 month waiting period.

Withdrawal applications are submitted to the HR unit of your own department, not to the enrolment call centre. The DPSA Reference Documents page lists a Nomination of Beneficiaries form for the GEHS ILSF, but no separate withdrawal application form, so ask your HR unit for the withdrawal paperwork.

GEHS home loans and housing finance

SA Home Loans is the scheme’s home finance partner, working with the DPSA, the Public Investment Corporation and the GEPF. For the GEHS Mortgage Loan, contact SA Home Loans on 0860 2 4 6 8 10 or Sales@sahomeloans.com. For the GEHS Housing Access Loan, use 0860 4444 17 or HousingAccess@sahomeloans.com.

SA Home Loans describes the GEHS Mortgage Loan as a loan of up to 100% of the purchase price over up to 30 years, depending on affordability. The GEHS Housing Access Loan goes up to R350 000 over up to 7 years to buy, build or improve a home, on land with or without a title deed. Both carry discounted rates for employees who repay by salary stop order.

GEHS office and address information

The DPSA GEHS pages list no walk-in GEHS office or office hours. The scheme works through the enrolment call centre, gehs@dpsa.gov.za and the online enrolment site, while housing allowance paperwork goes through departmental HR offices.

The DPSA GEHS pages list no provincial GEHS offices, including no separate Gauteng office details. SA Home Loans lists its branches on the branches page of sahomeloans.com and warns that it never asks for fees to be paid upfront. It tells clients to check branch and consultant details on its official website.

GEHS applications and escalation
