Traffic and licensing in Springbok are run by Nama Khoi Local Municipality, and the municipality publishes no separate telephone number for the traffic department. There is one switchboard for the whole municipality, and the traffic and licensing desks are reached through it. Any number advertised elsewhere as a direct Springbok traffic line is not one the municipality publishes.

Ask for traffic or for licensing by name when the switchboard answers, because they are separate desks doing different work. Traffic handles fines and law enforcement; licensing handles driving and vehicle licences.
What each desk deals with
- Traffic fines, summonses and representations against a fine: the traffic department
- Learner and driving licence bookings and tests, and renewals: the licensing office
- Vehicle licence renewal, registration and change of ownership: the registering authority function at the same municipal office
- Roadworthy certificates: a vehicle testing station, which in this district may be a private one rather than a municipal facility
Springbok serves a very large area
Nama Khoi covers a big part of Namakwa, and Springbok is the administrative centre for towns well beyond it. That means the licensing office draws from a wide catchment and appointment availability is the constraint rather than counter capacity. Phone before driving in from Okiep, Nababeep, Concordia or further out, and ask what the current waiting time is for a learner or driving test booking.
What to take with you
- Your identity document and a certified copy, plus proof of residence in your name that is not older than three months
- For a licence renewal, your current licence card and the required identity photographs
- For a vehicle transaction, the registration certificate and, where the vehicle is financed, written consent from the titleholder
- A means of payment the office actually accepts; small municipal offices are often card-only or cash-only rather than both
If something is not resolved
- Raise it with the department through the switchboard on 027 718 8100 or [email protected], and ask for a reference
- For a traffic fine you dispute, a written representation to the issuing authority is the formal route, made before the due date
- For an unresolved municipal service complaint, the Public Protector takes complaints about maladministration by a municipality
