The Bonitas medical aid contact number is 0860 002 108 for members on most plans, and 0861 239 333 for members on BonCap and BonCore. These are the general queries lines, so they are the numbers to use for customer care, claims queries and complaints. Both groups can WhatsApp Bonitas on 076 172 3151, and the general queries email is queries@bonitas.co.za (BonCap and BonCore: PHAQueries@bonitas.co.za). To request an ambulance, call 0860 555 505. Check which plan you are on before you call, because BonCap and BonCore members have a different general queries number and mailbox. If you are not sure, WhatsApp 076 172 3151, which Bonitas lists for both groups.

Bonitas customer care number and call centre

Bonitas does not use the name “customer care” on its Support page. The call centre number for members is the general queries line: 0860 002 108 on all plans except BonCap and BonCore, whose members call 0861 239 333. The Support page splits its contact details into two tabs, “All Other Plans” and “BonCap & BonCore”, which is why there are two numbers. The matching mailboxes are queries@bonitas.co.za and PHAQueries@bonitas.co.za. Keep your membership number at hand, and write down the query reference number you are given, because you need it to follow up.

Bonitas WhatsApp number

The Bonitas WhatsApp number is 076 172 3151, and it is the same for every plan. Bonitas’s Support page carries a banner asking members who need support during its transition to send a WhatsApp to this number. The fraud hotline and the two chronic medicine pharmacies have their own WhatsApp numbers, listed in their sections below.

Bonitas claims contact number

The contact list on Bonitas’s Support page has no separate claims number or claims mailbox. For a claims query, use the general queries line for your plan: 0860 002 108 or queries@bonitas.co.za, and 0861 239 333 or PHAQueries@bonitas.co.za on BonCap and BonCore. Claims and savings refunds are paid into the account on your application form.

You can also follow a claim online. Bonitas’s Member Zone lists a claims tracker and your claims history among its tools, both behind the member login. Doctors, hospitals and other providers with claim queries use the Provider Contact Centre rather than the member lines; see the provider section below.

Bonitas head office contact number

The head office number Bonitas gives in its PAIA manual is +27 11 384 5100. Bonitas’s registered address is 34 Melrose Boulevard, Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, 2196. The head office number is not a member service line: for queries about your cover, claims or authorisations, Bonitas directs members to 0860 002 108 (BonCap and BonCore: 0861 239 333).

Bonitas ambulance number

To request an ambulance, call 0860 555 505. Bonitas asks you to give your name, telephone number and medical aid number when you call, so keep your membership card or number where you can find it quickly. The same number applies on every Bonitas plan. In a life-threatening emergency, you can also call 112 from a cellphone.

Bonitas hospital authorisations

For planned hospital admissions, call 0860 002 108 or email hospital@bonitas.co.za to get authorisation before you are admitted. Have your membership number, the name of the doctor and hospital, the admission date and the procedure details ready.

Out-of-hospital, PMB, BonEssential and psychology authorisations

Bonitas does not publish a separate out-of-hospital, PMB, psychology or BonEssential authorisation line or email. The published authorisation route is 0860 002 108 or hospital@bonitas.co.za. BonCap and BonCore (PHA) queries go to 0861 239 333 or PHAQueries@bonitas.co.za. For a medical emergency, call 0860 555 505 or request an ambulance via the website or app, and give your name, phone number, medical aid number, a description of the incident and the address with the nearest crossroad.

Bonitas chronic medicine contact number and email

For chronic medication, call 0860 002 108 or email chronicmeds@bonitas.co.za. BonCap and BonCore members call 0861 239 333 or email phachronic@bonitas.co.za. You must apply for authorisation for chronic medicine, and your doctor or pharmacist can apply on your behalf. A 30% co-payment applies for non-formulary medicine or if you do not use the required designated service provider (DSP). Prescriptions are valid for 6 months, so send an updated one to your pharmacy, Pharmacy Direct or Marara Pharmacy every 6 months. Bonitas covers the 27 PMB chronic conditions plus depression on all plans.

BonComprehensive, BonClassic, BonComplete and Standard members can use any Bonitas network pharmacy or Pharmacy Direct.

Network hospitals and doctors for Bonitas

To find network doctors, specialists and service providers in your area, including BonCap providers in the Eastern Cape, use the “Locate a Provider” tool on bonitas.co.za; Bonitas does not publish provider lists as text. If you need to confirm that a hospital is in the network for your plan before a planned admission, ask when you call 0860 002 108 for the hospital authorisation.

Healthcare provider queries

Doctors, hospitals and other providers use the Provider Contact Centre on 0860 002 108 and the Provider Zone at bonitas.co.za/providerzone, rather than the member lines.

Bonitas office in Pretoria and contact number by area

Bonitas does not publish a Pretoria or Krugersdorp phone number. Members everywhere in South Africa use the national number, 0860 002 108 (BonCap and BonCore: 0861 239 333). The only Pretoria location Bonitas lists is the BonCap and BonCore walk-in centre at Shop 0037A, Nedbank Plaza, 361 Steve Biko, Arcadia, Pretoria. There is no walk-in centre in Krugersdorp; the nearest listed Gauteng centres are Johannesburg (Newtown Junction), Pretoria (Arcadia) and Vereeniging.

Bonitas lists walk-in centres for BonCap and BonCore members on its Support page. Bonitas does not list phone numbers for individual centres, so call 0861 239 333 before visiting.

Bonitas complaints email and ombudsman contact details

Bonitas has no separate complaints mailbox and no ombudsman of its own. Complaints go to the general queries line, 0860 002 108, or queries@bonitas.co.za. Note the query reference number you are given, because you need it to follow up. If you are unhappy with the outcome, call 0860 002 108 or email queries@bonitas.co.za again with your reference number and ask for the query to be escalated. Bonitas’s dispute resolution process is published under Legal on bonitas.co.za.

Report fraud, waste and abuse

Bonitas uses the independent Whistle Blowers ethics hotline for fraud, waste, abuse and error. Reports can be made anonymously or in confidence:

Bonitas banking details, accounts and cancellation

Bonitas does not publish banking details for members to pay into, an accounts, billing or credit control contact, or a cancellation email. Use 0860 002 108 or queries@bonitas.co.za (BonCap and BonCore: 0861 239 333 or PHAQueries@bonitas.co.za). Contributions are collected by debit order on the 1st, 5th, 15th, 25th or 27th. If you resign with unused medical savings, the balance is paid out to you. New applications go to newapplications@bonitas.co.za.

Bonitas and Medscheme

Bonitas’s Support page does not name Medscheme. It carries a banner asking members who need support during its transition to WhatsApp 076 172 3151; the member line remains 0860 002 108. See our Bonitas Medscheme contact details page.

Bonitas portal: Member Zone, login and app

The Bonitas portal for members is the Member Zone at bonitas.co.za/memberzone. Bonitas describes it as secure access to your claims history, membership documents and tax certificates, and lists these tools behind the login: claims tracker, digital membership card, hospital authorisations, benefits and cover, tax certificates and chronic medicine. The Member Login on bonitas.co.za asks you to choose between “BonCap / BonCore” and “All Other Plans” before you sign in, and the Member Zone page carries a notice that all members need to re-register.

Bonitas also has a Broker Zone and Provider Zone on bonitas.co.za, and a Bonitas app. Bonitas notes that where its brochures or website differ from the Scheme Rules, the Scheme Rules prevail, and that the rules are available on request.
